Go to http://ahevents.org/events/fso.html and read up on it.

Talk to guys in the main arenas and see if they fly FSO.  You must be a part of a registered squad (which does not affect your main arena squad affiliation).  They can invite you to their FSO squad to fly as a "guest" to see how you like it.

It's a single-life event - if you get shot down you cannot re-up an airplane (except if special rules allow it), but you can join others as gunner/observer.

You need to court a squad that participates in FSO and see if they have a seat you can fill for up to a Frame Set. According to the rules you can participate in one frame set, three frames to a set, to try out FSO, but after that you would need to join a squad, or, form your own (There may be some minimum numbers for an FSO Squad as the smallest numbers are 4-6 +- 2).

Just remember, it is a "One Life Event" meaning, if you get shot down you’re done for the event. It promotes some very conservative flying practices, and really heightens your sense of nerves. I've come off an FSO jittering from the adrenalin. Other than that It's REALLY fun with MANY aspects to get involved in depending on your level of interest. From just flying a mission, to planning missions, all the way up to being a CIC frame planner.

So, Ask around, I'm sure any squad worth their salt would be glad to have you sit in a frame. They’ll explain what I've said here, and probably a WHOLE bunch more. Just don't show up at 10:45 on Friday night asking if "Anyone has a seat”. Its very bad form, and you probably won’t like the response you get, and I don’t want to see that happen.

Grumpy, You've got two weeks to find a slot. Due to Frame Creep we're taking a two week break and resuming hostilities on 9/3.

Grumpy, if you haven't already planned to, walk on the next frame of the current scenario this Saturday 3 p.m. EST (show up 30 minutes early). You'll enjoy it as well.

LOL...yeah I know how that goes...I generally hop out of bed early on Saturdays, do the sh**, shower and shave routine just in case there are "plans", then say "I'm busy for the next 2 hours unless I announce differently".

The frames are generally 2 hours or 2 lives on the current one.

# Pilots get two lives.
# A pilot uses up a life if he dies, bails, ditches, does not get a "landed successfully" message, or if he exits (end sortie) at anything other than his takeoff base (except as noted in Allies Order of Battle).
# Launch a new plane only from your assigned takeoff base .
# You can refuel at any *active* base (not any base -- any active base), except that land-based aircraft cannot refuel at a carrier.
# Deaths as a gunner do not subtract from your available lives.

Arena lock is at 3pm EST. Takeoff is at 3:30pm EST. It goes for 3 hours but if you happen to get killed twice you can log off. It goes for 3 hours with a 30 minute RTB period.
