QUITTING SMOKING
« on: August 29, 2010, 10:37:05 AM »
After 30 years of full flavor cig smoking,I am going to be going with vaping/vapourizing nicotine liquid which is ONLY nicotine in a base of propylene glycol(SAFE) or vegetable glycol(SAFE)..the PG they say gives great TH/throat hits, and the VG gives good vapour..

Initial cost will be about $100,but I should break even within a month on normal cigs/ANALOGS they call them on the sites...

the taste of a cig flavor I have read, tastes like a freshly open pack of cigs smells, since there is no combusting of chemicals and paper..and the JUICES as they are called come in too many flavors to mention..

Here are a few links if anyone is interested..

This is to the BB I have been reading on incessantly..

And this site is where I am going to buy my set-up..

Anyway, will let you know how it progresses..

Good luck Falcon.  I'm on day 5 myself of the gum.  Quit a couple of years ago but backslid in January.  This time it's for good.

You are in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike.

Awesome you too!

A friend of mine is doing those e-cigs as well...definitely cheaper in the long run and you can slowly lower the nicotine level too.

Good luck Falcon,

I've found that the e-cigs while not totally eliminating the craving, are the best thing anyone has ever come up with, and may just be enough for one who is truly motivated. ( not me yet)

Be sure to get lots of extra batteries, atomizers and cartridges or refill liquid, you don't want to run out and have to wait for a new order to be shipped from God knows where.

I quit back in May of 2003, it took me two tries and I was able to succeed with nicorette gum.

Good luck to you, I'm at about 2 years now.

I used Chantix, which I thought was very helpful.  I tried unsuccessfuly with patches, chew, nico inhaler, etc.  For me the best way was cold turkey from any nicotine substitutes...they just prolonged the addiction and suffering for me

good luck, u should throw a mile run into your morning routine. You get a nice buzz build your endurance and you may lose the desire to smoke even more so as you will not want to undo the work you put into running. Atleast this is how I feel and seems to help.
<---may smoke a cig maybe once a month

Right on the money there, felt the same way.

Gave up on the Chantix even though it was working on the smoking. It turned off the sensor in my brain that stops me from saying things I shouldn't and the violent feeling have gone away now.  :D

I'm about 50/50 on the e-cig and real ones.

Congratulations on your decision.

I'm going on 10 months with e-cigs and loving it. The forum you linked to is a great place for info. One piece of advice I have for you is something that is spoken of often on that site. Get one with a good battery.

That means no cigarette-size vaporizers. While swapping out a battery for a fresh one every 2 hours is a pain, it's not the main reason I say this. Those little batteries are just not capable of powering a heating coil reliably. You want good consistent vapor if you're going to make the switch from cigarettes. And while I and many others were able to do it with a small unreliable device, I would suggest something more substantial to improve your chances.

One reason most newcomers go to a small device is because of the resemblance to a cigarette. But trust me, it's just not worth it.

Right now I'm using a device that I built from a tutorial on that forum. It uses two AA-size 3.7V Li-ion batteries in parallel with a voltage booster and capacitors. Lasts all day long. I just buy new batteries every few months, a few atomizers here and there, and I spend about 20 bucks a month in juice. That alone is worth the switch, nevermind the reduced health risks, regained sense of smell and taste, no more stinky clothes, and the fact I can smoke inside.

I tried the patch and the gum. They didn't work. This worked within a week. Good luck.  :salute

3 and a half months without a smoke here.  The E-Cig definately helped during the first few weeks.

Good luck man, you can do it!

It's been about a year and a half since I quit.

I used nicotine gum the first month.  Went to get more the second month and it was no longer on sale and I, being the cheapskate that I am, bought a pack of trident instead... plus I was afraid of getting hooked on the nicotine gum LOL.

By month three I had quit smoking AND chewing... well anything except pens and straws...

Congratulations!
