Attention Australians: this one is for you
« on: August 31, 2010, 01:07:24 AM »
I am going to run this twice on September 7th -- once at a time especially for Australians.

This Day in WWII:  Battle of Milne Bay
September 7, at 7 pm Melbourne time in Special Events II Arena (5 am Eastern Time US)

Each month, This Day in WWII commemorates a major battle in WWII on the day it happened, or for battles that lasted many days, the start day or end day.  For September, we commemorate the Battle of Milne Bay.  I will be staying up until the wee hours of the morning to run it for Australians.

Please help me get as much turn out for it as possible.  It would be a crime against nature and humanity for me not to run the Battle of Milne Bay at a time that Australians can play.

"Some of us may forget that of all the Allies it was the Australian soldiers who first broke the spell of the invincibility of the Japanese Army; those of us who were in Burma have cause to remember." -- Field Marshal Sir William Slim (talking about the Battle of Milne Bay)

Melbourne isn't part of Australia - we got sick of them and kicked them out. all they do is wear black and drink lattes all day watching strange codes of football. plus I don't think they have electricity yet.

Sorry off subject - if you pushed that out to 9.00pm Melbourne time that would be 7.00pm Perth time which means some Perth crew (including about 5 Raw Prawns) could get home from work and participate. That's also 7.00am Eastern US time which means more possible participants from your end.

Just a thought.

Hmm... might have to tweak the schedule to give this one a look. P-40s against Japs FTW!
Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

Arg.  That is going to wreck me for a day, but OK, I'll do it!  :salute  :aok  (I'm in Seattle, so 9 pm Melbourne time is 4 am for me.   :cry )

I'll move it to 9 pm Melbourne time.

Please spead the word among the Australians and New Zealanders if you can.  For it to be fun to play in, it will need at least about 15 on each side (30 total), although the more the better, of course.

It is set up to allow all types of action:  air to air, anti shipping, gound attack, base capture, and tank vs. tank.  The more people, the more of those activities that will come robustly into play.

I will also run it at 11:59 pm Eastern Time on Sept. 7th.  (Can't run it earlier as there is Air Racing then.)

It will be in the evening for him if he's in Australia (9 pm Melbourne time) -- but regardless, it will enhance his schooling because it is about the Battle of Milne Bay!   :aok

Thanks mate, cobber, champ, digger, tiger (5 local words to denote you as a person of worth)

Boomer, Pearler, Bottler, Ripper (4 local words to express happiness for an outcome)

If it wasn't for our victory at Milne Bay we would all be eating sushi and driving Toyotas.

Hang on!!!

We did win didn't we?
