The Stig is Unveiled
« on: September 02, 2010, 02:12:08 PM »
Well the news is out now, the whole world knows for sure that The Stig is Ben Collins who I had just seen last week was the favorite over other drivers in betting matches as to the real identity of The Stig.

Well here's one of the links for all you Top Gear fans out there.  I just recently got into watching the show myself and now have it DVR'd for every day at 6.

It is a Brit thing somewhat but it's been on BBC America for a few years now.  Pretty cool show if you like cars and such as long as you can stand the hosts.  I think they're pretty funny myself at times but others don't

oakranger, he was actually the 2nd one and had been doing it for about 7 years I think it said.  The first one was the Black Stig but he revealed himself one day so they killed him off by launching him in a car off of a Royal Navy aircraft carrier.

Its a good show but it gets hokey sometimes. The hosts get in scripted situations and try to act like its a surprise...poorly.

I'm a Top Gear fan, and I gotta come down on the side of the BBC on this one.

I mean I'm all for freedom of speech and expression.  But I'm also sure that he (Stig/Ben Collins) signed a contract with a  confidentiality / anonymity / don't-reveal-who you-are clause...  ... which he has now broken.  Harper Collins and Ben Collins say it's all about "freedom of speech"  :rofl :rofl  it's actually all about making money by breaking a contract, and creating a controversy to sell more books.

Many already knew (or guessed) that Collins was the Stig due to documents that came out in the investigation of Richard Hammond's rocket car crash, and financial records from Collins' own company.  But for him to come out in this manner, blatantly breaking a legal contract for nothing but fame and money, just reeks of greed and lack of integrity to me.  I don't know much about him, but he gets a thumbs down on this for me.

Why not retire from the Stig job quietly, then publish his biography in 10 years by which time Top Gear will probably be history and the BBC wouldn't give a hoot??  Oh wait I know... ... cause he can sell more books now by virtue of the controversy he's created.

I can't believe that the BBC didn't win this one... I mean come on!!  The guy knew what he was getting into when he signed on for the job, and he knew that anonymity was the biggest part of that.

i actually like top gear a LOT.

sometimes the constant bashing of american cars bothers me, but then i just remind myself that they're really jealous of our cars.

i consider them to be the middle aged british three stooges of the car world.....and they're friggin funny!
