IMO a big part of it is that he doesn't want to leave on a losing season. Last season was not a loser for the Vikes even though they didn't win the conference and go to the Super Bowl. Notice also that this year's rule changes made to the game include alterations to overtime rules which have been in effect since I can remember. A team cannot win in overtime w/ a field goal. They must win w/ a TD. If last years NFC conference game were to play out this year, the Vikes would have gotten another possesion and a chance to score a TD for the win. If both teams score FGs then it goes to sudden death. Alot of people can say what they want, but IMO an overtime win is an overtime win no matter how it was done.

The only objection I see as legitimate for the old overtime rules is teams may loose in OT without ever having possession of the ball

IMO Ot should go another quarter. then if no score. sudden death. At the very least each team should have at least one possession. With onside kicks dissallowed. which is probably more doable and preferable to playing an entire extra quarter.

The rules committees are like engineers and architects. They each tend to take something that has a simple solution and make it ten times more complex then it needs to be

But I give the a hell of a lot more respect than other sports in this respect.  They are progressively trying to make the sport safer and more balanced year after year.  Now that doesn't mean every change they make is for the better, but what other sport actively does it as frequently as they do?  Look how hard instant replay is to handle in baseball.

To be totally honest, I like the idea of playing a full extra quarter. The problem w/ this is the players would probably complain just they are doing about going to an 18 game season. If I could suggest something to the rules commitee, I would suggest something like each team has two possessions from the 40 yd line to score a TD. Then if still no winner, up to 2 sudden death FG attempts from say 50 yds. If one team makes the FG and the other team misses then you have a winner. If both teams make 2 FG in sudden death then it's a tie. But this is just my $.02

I'm still waiting for the next boo hoo speach he gives about "playing football just isn't worth it unless you win the super bowl". Wait, now hes changed his mind again and playing foot ball is "all about the team spirit"..

I wonder if his walker will be counted as 12 men on the field.

Your location says it all.  Could you link to the speech where he says it's all about the superbowl?

It was his first retirement speech at green bay, remember, when "the class act" held out all summer and wouldnt notify the organization weather he would play or not. Thats the reason they went with Rogers. I dont blame them.

i'm a diehard Packer fan, being from Green Bay and all (no, i'm not really from Ireland) and i'm also a diehard Favre fan, which as u can imagine has it's drawbacks around here.  IDGAF where he plays now, nobody except Lombardi and Wolf have done more for this city and this organization.    GO PACKERS and GO FAVRE (except when he plays Green Bay  :D)

The rules committees are like engineers and architects.

As a self taught structural enginerd I resent that remark sir  :P :neener: :lol

But, in general, you are correct.  'Common' sense is not all that 'common' :)

Well if your self taught. you might actually be worth a damn because you probobly have had to work through the problems you might have had to create.

All Architects and engineers should be required to work maintenance for a minimum of 5 years before they are allowed anywhere near a design board. Then they should start out with something simple..like a nail. or a nut and bolt
