Its so frustrating. It seems the genre of music I like they want me to buy half the songs from these artists  :furious  :furious

I already pay them $15 a month and they still want me to buy individual songs? I think its ridiculous that they want me to pay for something I'm already paaying for.

You are paying 15 a month for the service. I'd seriously doubt the artists are getting anything from othere fees that Napster charges. Just get cd's and make a copy to your PC.
Don't try and outweird me.I get stranger things than you free in my breakfast cereal!

They're all bad in some way, Killer.  It's more a matter of what you download.  Download 1 may be fine but Download 2 of the same object could be virus-loaded.

Also, I know Skuzzy has mostly given up here, but you may still want to watch what you say in terms of mentioning said programs (not allowed to talk about programs that allow obtaining paid/copyright objects for free).  The rest of the crew seems to be monitoring the forums off/on. :)

It seems the main problem with limewire and the like are idiots downloading something called "big movie title here" or "brand new just released song", with a file size of like 13kb.  Clearly just a virus.

I still have a turntable, I bought a new Yamaha receiver and am now looking at a NAD Phono Preamp.  :rock

Should do just fine. :)

In my experience you have to spend about twice as much on a CD player or transport than you would on a turntable to get the same sound quality.  I took the dive into records about a year and a half ago and haven't looked back. :)

Screw iTunes.  Apple and their maniacal DRM BS is ridiculous.  I use Amazon.  Their MP3s are ripped to at least 256 kbps and are DRM free.

Honestly,  if you're worried about sound quality you should be going for 24 bit DVD audio rather than CDs.

I don't like buying cds because there are very few artists who consistently put out an entire cd of good songs.  I'd much rather pay per song for those I like, and maybe take a chance on a few unknowns.  Itunes works well for me.

I just want them to stop charging for what I've already payed for.

Why did you post here? Contact NAPSTER.

Seriously, I did not know they were still around.

With Napster you don't actually lose the songs if your computer crashes. Once you get it going again you reinstall Napster and all your songs are saved in their online library.

ou do have to redownload them but it doesn't cost anything. I use a Samsung mp3 player that will hold 500+ songs. I hate when I'm listening to CD's and i want to listen to a

different artist and I gotta dig the CD's out, find the right one, eject the old, and put the new one in while I'm driving down the road because i don't have one of those fancy 5 cd radios. Thats what

holds me back from CD's. I don't see any reason what so ever to charge 99 cents a song after I pay them $15/month.

Another thing you have to watch out for is that with a lot of these 'subscription' services, you lose ALL of your songs if you ever cancel your subscription.  I dare you.  Cancel napster and shortly after you'll find that when you go to play an MP3 it will be 'locked out'.  Read the TOS real close I guarantee it's in there.

I agree with everyone about CD's.  It might be a bit more but at least I get to keep my songs and play them whenever I want.  I don't have to worry about copy protection and any of that.

Another option is to download the 'downloadhelper' plugin for Firefox.  Then you can visit a website with media on it and save that media to your drive.  Example.. you can find a music video that you like on youtube and download it.  Then you can convert it to an audio mp3 and put it in your player (there are many free converters out there).  The only two things to worry about with this is 1> The quality (while not bad) is not usually as good as from a CD and 2> You have all of the copyright issues to contend with.

Napster still exists, but in no way like it used to.  It really is nothing more than a glorified "iTunes" kind of deal.  Waste of money if you ask me.  I would much rather pay $1 per song elsewhere to have something that I actually get to keep.  The New "Napster" only lets you borrow the songs.  Once you cancel your subscription you lose them all.

My G/F never even uses them anymore, but still pays them $15/month because she doesn't want to lose all of her music.  Yes there are ways around this but the legality of it all is questionable, and for that reason she refuses the even check into it.
