With Napster you don't actually lose the songs if your computer crashes. Once you get it going again you reinstall Napster and all your songs are saved in their online library.
ou do have to redownload them but it doesn't cost anything. I use a Samsung mp3 player that will hold 500+ songs. I hate when I'm listening to CD's and i want to listen to a
different artist and I gotta dig the CD's out, find the right one, eject the old, and put the new one in while I'm driving down the road because i don't have one of those fancy 5 cd radios. Thats what
holds me back from CD's. I don't see any reason what so ever to charge 99 cents a song after I pay them $15/month.
Another thing you have to watch out for is that with a lot of these 'subscription' services, you lose ALL of your songs if you ever cancel your subscription. I dare you. Cancel napster and shortly after you'll find that when you go to play an MP3 it will be 'locked out'. Read the TOS real close I guarantee it's in there.
I agree with everyone about CD's. It might be a bit more but at least I get to keep my songs and play them whenever I want. I don't have to worry about copy protection and any of that.
Another option is to download the 'downloadhelper' plugin for Firefox. Then you can visit a website with media on it and save that media to your drive. Example.. you can find a music video that you like on youtube and download it. Then you can convert it to an audio mp3 and put it in your player (there are many free converters out there). The only two things to worry about with this is 1> The quality (while not bad) is not usually as good as from a CD and 2> You have all of the copyright issues to contend with.
