9/11
« on: September 12, 2010, 03:15:47 AM »
Gotta say I am kinda disappointed that there wasn't a 9/11 memorial flight. I think it's great that as a community we come together to celebrate and honor the life of a fallen player but, I think it's sad that we as a community neglected or ignored the loss of 3000 + Americans.  As a New Yorker and an American, I'm just kinda disappointed as to how today turned out. I know we all aren't Americans but, almost all of us can thank an American for the freedom we enjoy everyday. THANK YOU TO EVERYBODY THAT HAS GIVEN THEIR LIFE WHETHER IN NY, THE PENTAGON, THE FIELD IN PENNSYLVANIA, IRAQ, OR AFGHANISTAN.   :salute

Are you disappointed in yourself for not suggesting this until after the fact?

Not to start a flame war but your suggestion most countries thank the US for their freedom is a little insulting and arrogant.   We Aussies fought in WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam, and we are dying and fighting today in Afghanistan and in Iraq.  We thank OURSELVES for our freedom, most of which we get from our legislature and common law not from war. Im pretty certain that most other countries in the world don't thank the US for their freedom either, they thank the hard work and effort they put in themselves to make their society free.

As for the flight, it was suggested in another thread but didn't go anywhere.

:airplane: Yeah I do wish the US would stay out of other countries and quit giving away billions of dollars in support. Do have to <S> the Aussies that were in Vietnam knew a couple, great guys. As far as getting your freedoms from your legislature that is funny, how can a group of know nothing politicians  give you something that is a basic right of mankind?  :headscratch:

I think one should defiinetly do it next year. I am kind of glad one didn't happen this year because I haven't been able to play the game and would love to have been part of it. Next year I plan to do, and being I knew someone who was killed in the first tower, it would be that much more to me to be in one of the memorial flights.

I <SALUTE> and thank any and all in the Armed Forces who are putting their lives on the line to keep the fight from landing on this soil. If there is to be a war, it damn well better be taken to those that started it instead of them crashing airplanes full of ordinary people into our front yard.

I think your post was a sufficient giving of thanks, as far as a game forum goes.  To a lot of people the main arenas really arent appropriate places for this sort of thing.  Some, myself included, feel a need to keep the absolute seriousness of life and the online internet games we play seperate affairs.  Besides, nothing keeps anyone from calling an impromptu flight at anytime in the main arenas.  Besides that is the fact that announcing such a flight provides ample opportunities for ambush style type fights :)  Oh imagine the whines  ;)
