Kills per hour???
« on: September 11, 2010, 12:27:14 PM »
I've been playing a few years and it seems to be getting harder to find "action" in the arenas these days.  I took a look at my and my squads kills per hour stats from the last camp (tour 127) vs the final tour (92) before the arena split and found this:
Tour 127 my K/H was 7.45 which got me ranked 209 in that category.  The squad K/H was 5.29 which got a rank of 77.
Tour 92 my K/H was 7.42 which got me ranked 400.  The squad K/H was 5.18 which got the rank of 150.
Looking at those numbers leads me to conclude there was a higher average K/H in the game prior to the arena split and why wouldn't there be?  More players in one area is going to mean more kills (and fights) per hour.

Now that is just a tiny snapshot of the time frame in question and I didn't look up every tour since I started playing.  BUT it does seem to confirm my feeling that fights are getting fewer than they used to be.  On the small maps 200 players seems OK but on the larger maps things can get pretty spread out.  This also creates an additional problem of players sitting in the tower waiting for fights to develop which only compounds the problem.

I know, beating a dead horse...  My HO whine will follow shortly.

The arena split was several tours before 92. In tour 92 only separate scores started.

My bad.  Do you know when the split occurred?

More people flying more timidly and spending more time NOE to avoid combat.  That's what is making it difficult to find fights; not the arena splits or caps.

I don't see any change between now and tour 70 when I started AH.

But I did note that overall player online numbers where higher a few years ago.

That's what is making it difficult to find fights; not the arena splits or caps.

Well, if you log in at euro primetime and have only 30 players in arena, it's surely making hard getting any kills ;)

In tour 100 we had total kills:

10,533 in EW
37,597 in MW
717,234 in LW

Two years later, tour 124:

3,936 in EW
18,161 in MW
440,140 in LW
(+ ~10K in WWI)

This seems to be roughly corresponding with the numbers I see on my login screen every day (which, btw, makes arena caps harder to bear than 2-3 years ago.)

Is this Your OPINION, or do you have statistical evidence to support that statement?  Without facts, this discussion can very easily deteriorate into a "how people should play" whine fest.

Relic's original post is supported with some (albeit limited) statistics, but the question is supported.

Excuse my previous post... I should have also added ....   that your assumption/opinion could very well be a contributing factor as to lower K/hour ratios.  I am sure there are a lot of 'contributing factors' that could affect the game play or the K/H ratio.

For example:
1.  Stagnating player base could mean less Newbies and fewer easy vulch kills.  Vets tends to fly better and there are less 'easy' quick kills to be had (myself excluded as I still remain an easy kill).
2.  Your belief that NOE missions and timid flying certainly could decrease the K/H
3.  Spread out maps could make fewer people bunch together in fights
4.  Split arenas could be a factor that spreads out the fights and decreases K/H ratios
etc....

There can be a massive number of reasons why it happens; however, without facts or statistics, there is no way to prove the point.

It could be any of the forementioned reasons in addition to the fact that it seems there are fewer players on(coincidental with global economic downturn), more people get involved with special events( Lusche, can you get numbers on special events participation over the same period ? ) I should have said I agree with what NC lawman said( :aok)...(never go to forums after you first wake up )

No, I don't have any way to track those.
But even if more players to attend special events, that numbers would have pretty low impact on overall 24/7 MA numbers - the only events with a really high number of participants are FSO and Scenario's.

Arena split was in tour 80, scoring was finally split in tour 93, Titanic Tuesday was introduced in tour 94, no large maps in LW from tour 80-93

Very interesting Lusche. TY.  It would appear that total numbers of kills averaged highest in the period between 80 and 92.  Though it does remain high for a good period after before dropping off.

On a side note, where did you get that green mountain?  I tried to fly goon through the valley at Tour 105, but kept hitting the side   :D

One may then make the assumption, based on your data Snailman, that larger maps do not support community........  Err, or at least a sense of finding a fight easy enough.

So just to be clear here....  We aren't talking about the specific statistic in the scoring system, we are talking about the outward effect of that particular statistic, right?

Less people are definitely playing now vs. then.  And I only base that on remembering back when I started (tour 89 or 90ish) there were ranks as high up as 6000.  Now I'm not sure if the worst rank is 4000.   :frown:

One thing the individual can do to help bring back the good ole days is TALK ABOUT AH every chance you can.  I always try to get people to start playing.  HTC is small and they don't have a million bucks to spend on marketing.  WE need to help keep this game great!!!   :salute
