Night Flying in AH
« on: July 12, 2001, 11:56:00 PM »
I for one was very exsited to see that AH supported a "Night time" and looked forward to it. However, anymore I dread it, even HATE it!! I can't fly at "night" I can't even see the field well enough to land on it, and it's starting to piss me off that I pay $30 a month for a game I have not been able to fly for two nights in a row now, simply cause it's "night time" when I log in! I for one am more then ready for either the nights to be MUCH shorter i.e. 5 min. tops, or to do away with it all together. It's incredibly annoying to TRY to go fly this game in the time I have to fly it only to find out it's Night time in AH!! PLEASE, lets get rid of it!!! Maybe we could make the moon brighter? but lights on the fields? SOMETHING!!

Had you tried to turn your room's light off? Works for me    :)

Now dawn is another story   ;)

Cheers,

I'd agree with you that lights on the field would be nice- as would cockpit lights (maybe red?).  However, I disagree with you that night needs to be shortened or done away with.. it lasts for maybe 15 minutes anyways.  I for one would like to see it last LONGER.

First be sure you're using 32bit colors.
Then find out if your vid-cards gamma-level is adjustable.
Darken your room and adjust your monitors brightness.

If it's still too dark try fight in WWIIOL's night.
I can guarantee its twice as hard as in AH  :)

You fly in daylight?

I started AH in march, and couldn't understand the objections to night flying, I could see OK.

Now the long summer days are here, and I find I can't see a thing if the screen is light by sun light.

One of the few, very, very few, reasons to want the long Nordic nights back.....

Night flying is the coolest thing since sliced bread... I cant understand why anyone doesnt like it - it kicks ass.

You are right about the red lighting - HINT HTC...

Give it another go with the lights off and fly by the seat of your pants - adrenaline rush anyone?

Night WOULD be cool, BUT were missing some important things, which would make the night-time very cool feature. Now the zero light is just ruining my fights.

1.Fighters with flares
2.Icon range to 2k
3.Field lights and some random ground lights here and there. Also every target, like city should have lights.
4.Plane cockpits should have red lighting. Also, when youre close to your enemy, you should see the dim from hes cockpit.
5.For eye candy, explosions should emit light and if this new dx8 allows, tracers too.

Could be a number of things... but I watched the roster tonight and we went from about 120 people down to 60 within minutes of the onset of night.

And regarding turning the lights off etc., the days are pretty long and pretty bright, and for a lot of us the lights are *already* off, and during the AH night I'm looking at a reflection of my face in the monitor and seein' what look like enemy planes fly up my nostrils.

Tuomio,

I would go with your points, except the lights thing. AFAIK, lights in cities were off, when there was an ongoing raid. In airfields, they were only turned on for landing/take off purposes.

Would be cool if landing lights turned on for, say, 30 seconds, when a player clicks the rnwy button, and a dot command (for instance  .lights A##, operative when inside certain radius of such A## airfield) to turn them on when landing.   ;)

Cheers,

Pepe.

I know pepe, here in finland at ww2, they built a fake town with some lights 30km out from Helsinki (they got a hint about bombing destination and ETA), which were Soviet bombers target...And they swallowed it! =) They bombed the hell out from the bogus city and thousands of lives were saved.

But i think it wouldnt ruin AH if there was 1 or 2 little lights in the city. You couldnt pinpoint anyway with it and only effective method would be carpet bombing.

I think it would be much more eye candy, to see those light shining in runways all the time.

Nihgt fly is good and should be longer i.e. 1 hour. If you dont know how to fly at night, then you could ask somebody, who know it :)

ps.: land should be a bit darker.. is too lighting now

I don't mind night flying so much anymore, but it took some getting used to at first. I also don't mind it because I know its gonna end. Anything that affects lighting will yeild different preferences from people. For some of us, age settles in and affects our eyesight; I for one am affected by this.
The virtual night isn't accurate because night vision isn't factored into the modelling. I for one am affected by the daylight; its too bright and I have to strain to read the map.
I don't agree with some in here who suggest that lights be used at airfields or in cities. Throughout battles areas strict blackouts were in effect. But, perhaps some sort of reflector lights which only pilots of that country could see would be a compromise.

night time is just a minor annoyance with me now.  If it were longer it would bother me more.   It slows down the action.

It can be ok because it's "different" but if I am undecided wether to stay on or log, night time will decide for me.   I will log for the day.   shorter nigh would be better longer would be worse.  If you like doing nothing in a new way... It's ok I guess.

The nice thing about night flying is that it doesn't matter if you black out.
