Which is better for overclocking, a 1400mhz cpu with a 200mhz FSB, or the same cpu with a 266mhz FSB?

Please explain... I'm crossing over from Intel and don't have a clue.

If you are building a new system ALWAYS use the "C" models (266 MHz FSB). Technically the 200 Mhz models are a little easier to overclock, but the performance of the 266 Mhz fsb models are MUCH BETTER.

A 1400 (200 Mhz FSB) approx= 1200 Mhz (266 Mhz FSB) for most games. Office Apps don't show much difference.

Honestly though a 1400 Mhz Athlon will only get to about 1533 Mhz or so without some really extreme cooling. If you want to do better, get ahold of the brand new 1400 Mhz Athlon MP models.

(They will be renamed Athlon XP soon, and available at 1533 Mhz sometime in early October.)

Pressure from heatsink/fan helps to keep "Blue Magic Smoke" inside of the cpu...

The heatsink mounting and heat issues are really the only way that Intel is superior to AMD. The Palomino is better than the older Tbirds, but it can still be killed by running without the heatsink in place.

Truthfully though (though I liked the Tom's Hardware article) if a heatsink came off from a modern processor it would destroy the video card as it fell for sure! The processor would be the least of your worries.

AMD would certainly make me happy if they covered the Athlon die with a metal plate like the new P3s and P4s.

Overall though it's a fairly minor issue considering the HUGE price to performance advantage of the Athlons and Durons. (Tbird 1.4 approx= P4 2 Gig in my testing. The palomino at 1.4 should be even better.)
