Saitek X-36 and Usb
« on: July 01, 2000, 10:33:00 AM »
Hiya's
Has anyone out there got an Asus P5ab Motherboard ? as i am going mad trying to get my USB port configured
I got the Asus Pir/Usb/Ps2  board specially for this Motherboard now i am getting this weird effect......
The Usb is installed and is in control panel/system as working ok with no conflicts, now i installed my new Saitek X-36 usb combo setup (no probs with the stick as i will explain)and this is what happens...... I configure stick great, Enter Aces in offline mode, Now as i takeoff to try some moves after around 60 to 70 seconds i get a type of  Slow Down the game goes into relly slow motion for 1 to 2 seconds then goes back to normal
I had a Banshee 16meg at first and i thought if it could be this? well i swapped (he hasn't found out yet     ) my Banshee for my Bro's Tnt 32meg, well same again 60 to 70 secs and game slows down real slow for 1 to 2 secs again !
Now i tried this.... I removed the Saitek stick and all stuff to do with it, Then removed Usb from Control Panel/System, I then installed my trusty 15pin P/pro stick then removed Usb again from System and lo and behold No Slow Down in Aces ? and my P/pro worked great with my newly aquired Tnt 32
I have only had Usb for just over 24hrs now and it's driving me mad trying to sort it (no techno buff here)       Anyone got any Help/Ideas   any knowledge would be very much appreciated

I Wish I could give you an easy answer, but I can't.

First I would post this in the tech support section to see if Hitech or Pyro have an answer.

I did experience something like your explaining once or twice and all I did was reboot and everything was fine. This will at least tell you that it has happened to others.

I'm sure you downloaded the updated Saitek driver file. Don't use the one that comes in the box.

Saitek also provides a nuke USB file that you should use to nuke and remove all reference to your USB before reinstalling and trying it again.

After you do the above have my Saitek Profile downloaded to try out. At least you know it's a profile that already works. Make sure the profile is set for the same target directory of the Aces High .exe file. I used the default so it should automatically configure your stick upon starting up Aces high.

Finally, there is a current problem with the new version of Aces High and Saitek Stick Profiles. The automatic dial out and connect to Roger Wilco can interfere with your Saitek Profile that is also trying to load at exactly the same time. This causes your stick profile to be only partially loaded with a corrupt file. You can experience strange stick commands and loss of certain views. This could be part of the problem.

One of the other pilots gave me a temp fix until AH comes out with the next patch. I went into control panel...dialup networking, open your dial up connection and set it to NOT automatically connect. Then hit the settings tab about half way down or so in the window and make sure it's set to NEVER connect. Look around for these commands as I can't remember it exactly. This will prevent the Aces High auto dial out and auto Roger Wilco connect from interfering with your Saitek starting up. It will also allow you to start up and play offline without an internet connection. You should send a dialup startup shortcut to the desktop so you can manually dial out to the net.

AH plans a RW disable feature in the next patch.

I hope this helps, because it's an excellent stick combination.

Hiya Bob
Thanks for the info, It's much appreciated

Well i am no techie as you may gather but.....
after reloading orig bios (as i cant d/load a working new one    ) i have found a few more things out, Firstly with orig cmos setup my usb (as long as the saitek resource thing isn't in system) doesnt seem to be causing any screen slow down (this is with no saitek anything loaded)now i check sys monitor and cpu usage stays at about 7-12 no zero dropouts (using only sys mon that is) so now i have  got usb/hub enabled and no cpu drops to zero   so unfortunately to me this seems to be the problem.......

If just usb (new board meant for my asus p5ab m/board, consists of 1xpir 2xusb slots and a ps2 mouse slot) is loaded all is well with orig bios 1005 (latest is 1010  !!!!) but if i load 1.4 driver and stick is detected  well   this is when i get cpu shut down for 1-2 secs.....weird ehh ?  lmao

Well learning new stuff all the time at least that's one way i look at it

Well shoe laces have gone into bin just in case i get a sudden urge to give up hope altogether     he he

Back to battle the forces of evil in my pc !

                 Thanks again

                      Tit

ps.. hope you can understand what i've wrote as i say i'm no techie
