Did any of our B17 runs from Midway even SCRATCH a cv?
Nope, but the CVs also didn't steam straight ahead as if nothing was happening.

The Japanese did score some hits on Repulse and Prince of Wales from level bombers.

Of course lets not forget that the "war" in Aces High has been raging for 10 years and some of the Vet Buff pilots have a lot of hours under their belt bombing CVs. Granted I don't know the total numbers but I'm willing to guesstimate that most bombardiers that actually got a chance to bomb a CV only did it once or twice during the war, where as in the MA on a good map a buff pilot could sink 4-5 CVs in a single night. Practice makes perfect.

Rather than making CV's harder to bomb why not fly cap over the CV and intercept the bombers when they come into range?

That can't work, that requires effort, patience, and planning, there is no room for that kind of thinking in the MA.

Every carrier fight ends with high altitude bombers taking out a moving, turning carrier. I watch a lot of WW2 films and footage and have never seen B-17's or B-25's bomb carriers. No way you can hit a moving, turning carrier with a bomb from 10,000 feet in real life. No way!

And exactly how is HiTech supposed to make bombing a CV harder?  A bomber is aiming for a given point on the landscape, not the CV.  He will miss if the CV is not there when the bombs land.  The only way to make it harder to bomb a CV is if you make it harder to accurately bomb a given point on the landscape.  If you do that, then you have also made it harder to hit hangers/strats/town/etc.  While some may applaud that, overall it would be a bad thing for the game.

by modelling CV ack better, so anything flying in a straight line for 20s or so near the CV gets wasted.

MeF4u flew cap over cf last night.  Dank bastage killed my buffs before I had a chance to drop.  Good thing for me most players don't cap cf.

Or modelling the ack so the bomber would shake furiously and have more of a chance to miss the target?
That could be bad for the torpedo bombers that is prowling torward the CV.

Ack is too uber already. I can't recall the last time I didn't get nailed from 15K out while dogfighting near a CV.

Who cares? The whole cv group magically reappears in 15 min. With that kind of industrial output its no great loss.  :cry :cry

Popping a CV from 10K is remarkably easy when you get the technique down.  Good calibration, 1 CV length of lead at 10K, 9 out of 10 times you'll send it to Davy Jones' locker.  Even if someone turns it, it's usually easy enough to correct for, as the bombs will be there before the cv is more than 25-30 degrees off center.

EDIT:  Someone (Bish) the other night gave me fits by "snaking" the cv with very mild S turns while maintaing the same basic heading.  Lancs would've popped it, but I was in a Mossy without a formation.  Splash damage from the cookie still lit the candle even though I missed by a good 50 feet.
