Yes and no.....  First off, the NTSB does in the present day define a ditch as related to water landing:
http://www.ntsb.gov/aviation/aviation.htm
http://www.ntsb.gov/events/2009/weehawken-nj/14-gardlin-presentation.pdf

However, we shouls be speaking in terms of WWII, no?  When pilots ditched any place they could.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_landing

The National Transportation Safety Board of the United States government defines "ditching" in its aviation accident coding manual as "a planned event in which a flight crew knowingly makes a controlled emergency landing in water.

After all, our game is WWII, and we shouls are...............  WTF is a shoul?   :headscratch:

yea it's been discussed to no end and they always say "no change shall be made", but on the flip side you can get away with some pretty ridiculous stuff too. The other day I plowed into the carrier deck so hard that i went through it and ended up in that room where u choose your load out. 100% successful landing thank you thank you

or you could even bounce your plane off town buildings and come to a stop in a flaming wreckage, also a successful landing. I think if u tried that in RL they would call it an act of terrorism.

They should however let u land on battleships too when the CV gets destroyed, u know how hard it is to get a plane on one of those and survive? just for a fancy ditch :old:

The ocean is one big ditch.
It's just filled with water.      ;)

Often, during a hairball full of vultures over my field I'll ditch quickly on concrete even if I have intact gear or 100% intact aircraft, simply because it's more difficult to line up on a plane which ditches because it stops much quicker, and I'm often in the tower before the fire bullets hit the dirt where I was. I've practiced this to the point that I can ditch most birds inside a V-base hanger without crashing. It's very difficult for a fighter to follow me in or kill me through the hanger walls. If I don't have any kills I'll just ditch on any clear grass, but skidding inside a hanger will give added cover to "Land" my kills.

it can be quite difficult...however the circumstanes a field is a field, meaning it doesnt move and you must judge your plane right (considering you have it mostly under copntrol enough to make any type of landing) and plop it onto the runway. It is a given at most times you will NOT be making it home and so just stay for the fight but IMO if your really are worried about landing points or kills etc then you shouldnt place yourself into a dangerous enough position in the first place. You should always be able to control some sort of outcome regardless the odds.

anywho, my favortie "desperate landings" if you will, are flying off of a CV, into an enemy base...pieces missing, engine oil hit, possibly even a Pw (if your lucky  :lol) and trying to land on a Moving object, as some tards cant help themselves with moving a CV every 2 seconds once it straightens out   Toss in a missing wing or flap and Ta Da, landed succesfully. I say a runway is the least of my worries when it comes to landing near deadstick if not already deadstick...them CV landings are quite entertaining   :aok   :rock    :joystick: :joystick: :joystick:

I just think if you up a perk plane and ditch like just off it. Loosing 100% perk value you launched with is kinda unfair like at least take off 5% of the perk value you took off with, if you ditch.

This was a successful landing:

I have landed in a hangar....nearly shatting myself with 7-9 kills to land for the first time. Then I go to end sortie and uh oh...gives me a ditch! Think it would be cool to have like a 1000M perimeter where if u land your plane you get successfull landing.  :rock

Lets be honest about this.  It has nothing to do with anything more then perks and points.  Who cares!

It's just a cartoon airplane.  Get another one :)

and the point STILL is, if getting a good landing is important to you, get GOOD AT LANDING on the stinking runway! jeeeez  KIDS!   :neener:
