Southern Asian Treaty organization would back S. Korea for firsts. second, Obama is pulling out of Afghanistan in 2011. third, china doesnt want war due to the fact that the world would stop them. fourth, Kim jong Il is crazy so he probably would use nukes... fifth. we'd back up S. Korea no matter what due to the fact that we have a treaty saying we would.
Really? Im in the Military and the order Im getting is that Ill be deploying in early 2011.....

Side note to the conversation- ROK has military units helping us now in our current operations. They also have a million men+ military like the DPRK, and they use US built F-15s for Air power. My money is on the ROK stomping DPRK alone with US units in a support role(Bombers, Navy, Tanks) if anything big did happen.

If someone like Russia or Iran started live firing exercises within US waters do you guys think you'd just sit there with your fingers up your backside?

First off, read up on the Cuban Missile Crisis and see how that went down and how close we got to war with them just having the equipment withing range of our backside, then you can come sit at the big boys table and join us in a conversation after you're done trying to change the subject and defend a vile regime because your ego got called out before you cross-referenced your facts.

If I understand correctly the waters that are currently occupied by the south are disputed. The south alledgedly was lobbing shells into the waters north of the disputed territory (ie into undisputed waters).

I'm not favouring any claims, just putting out the facts to the angry mob ;)

Clearly, since you're defending the claims of a nutzo dictator against the treaties and international agreements recognized by every other civilized nation involved in the region or not.

Yep. Fact also is SK shells landed in disputed water, NK shells on civilian buildings inside SK territory (not disputed). Kind of a big difference there.

No, SK shells landed in NK non-disputed waters. NK shells landed on civilians in disputed island territory (not saying thats ok by the way).

I dont know about that.  First off: Possesion of any disputed territory is 9/10ths ownership.

Also, Facts are the leading cause of deception in most cases.

If the North wants to take the South to war over this dispute I do not see what choice the South has other than full out war or capitulation.
A single tactical nuclear weapon detonated in Pyongyang should end it decisively, before millions die all across the peninsula in a drawn out war.

I doubt the North has enough live/working ammo to last more than 5 mins tbh - you wouldn't need a nuke. I think they sell anything working kit off to iran/some-3rd-world-country-in-africa - rest is for show.

What are you on about exactly? My ego? Cross referencing facts?

I'm not defending some nutzu dictator, I'm correcting ASSumptions made by people like you. You need to lay off the drugs or attend reading comprehension courses.

How can you have not seen the NK statement? It' going to become an internet meme:

Quote
"The South Korean enemy, despite our repeated warnings, committed reckless military provocations of firing artillery shells into our maritime territory near Yeonpyeong island beginning 1300 (0400 GMT)," the state-run KCNA news agency quoted it as saying.

The North would "continue to make merciless military attacks with no hesitation if the South Korean enemy dares to invade our sea territory by 0.001mm", it warned.

South admit live firing in the area, but say it was directed 'away' - so it's a case of he said/she said - with a stupid response from NK.

I am all for sticking up for South Korea. I'd hate to see us go into another war, but we must do what is necessary to protect our country and allies. I do feel that "swift action" must be made to deal with North Korea. Whatever that "swift action" is, I don't know. It just depends on the circumstances.

That is all I will say. Don't want to get the thread locked with possible talks of politics and what not...

Today SK is the seventh largest trading partner with the US and we really do not want that to come to a halt. Dont buy into this hogwash about China owning parts of the US or us owing a great debt to them. The US debt is still a very small part of our economy and except for political expediancy it holds absolutely no weight upon our actions around the globe. Even an upstart President that wants to hand victory to our enemies cant pull it off without Congress backing him and that isnt going to happen. Korea needs to be dealt with and should have been dealt with LONG before they got nukes. Well guess they have nukes now huh? Better finish the war before they get a viable delivery system.
