whats wrong?  you dont take a shining to being destroyed?  I got news for ya pard, being destroyed is a risk this country has been taking since the 1960s.  the fact that we would retaliate and destroy any nation that attempted to destroy us is whats kept the planet alive ever since.

China would be devastated beyond measure if a few thousand US nuclear missile strikes landed there.  I personaly would recommend taking out their 13 largest hydo electric dams.  That act alone would send them back to the 18th century, which in China at that time was equivalent to within a few hundred years B.C.

For the sake of america lets hop not. They will destroy us
That's funny, they couldn't step within 2,000 miles of the coast even if they tried. Because of Americans, who by the way aren't going to give up a cm of land.

One, because most americans are pretty robust.
Two, many carry guns, lets not mention 98% have some sort of weapon.
Three, you try getting through New York with angry Americans shooting, ambushing, and anything else you can think of, at you.

That's not happening, tank or no tank.

Everything I can find mentions that the RoK military was live firing into undisputed waters to the West of the island.  You know away from NK.  Which the crazy little man with the bad hair cut responded in kind.  They fired their artillery at military and civilians.

Really? Im in the Military and the order Im getting is that Ill be deploying in early 2011.....

Side note to the conversation- ROK has military units helping us now in our current operations. They also have a million men+ military like the DPRK, and they use US built F-15s for Air power. My money is on the ROK stomping DPRK alone with US units in a support role(Bombers, Navy, Tanks) if anything big did happen.

+1

Im deploying in early 2011 too

Lets not forget that this country is to big. It would be like Germany or France invading Russia, a complete failure.

Besides those points, we have natural defenses, 3 mountain ranges, crazy rednecks, and if they try to take the midwest, TORNADOES. I'm pretty sure nowhere else in the world gets as many tornadoes than the united states. I honestly would love to see the reaction of some foreign soldier seeing a twister, not knowing what it is  :rofl

Southern Asian Treaty organization would back S. Korea for firsts. second, Obama is pulling out of Afghanistan in 2011. third, china doesnt want war due to the fact that the world would stop them. fourth, Kim jong Il is crazy so he probably would use nukes... fifth. we'd back up S. Korea no matter what due to the fact that we have a treaty saying we would.

America exports vast amounts of food to China, so they are not going to do anything.

Personally I think they should just sort it out. Get a force combining the SK military and the USMC and Airborne with the airforce, and put a boot up Kim Jongs rear.

Also, with regards to our debt to China: If you owe the bank $100,000 the bank OWNS you.  If you owe the bank $10,000,000,000 you OWN the bank.

Fascinating discussion.

FWIW, my opinion:
1) China will overtly stay out while quietly playing up to both ROK and PDRK.
2) PDRK will sabre-rattle a little more, then settle down. They're not stupid and learned the rules of provocation/appeasement from watching Saddam.
3) ROK will posture militarily but will do nothing substantive.
4) UN will issue a near-unamimous security council resolution saying in essense: PDRK, please stop this. Pretty please.
5) USA will move a carrier group or two into the area on exercises.
6) USA will diplomatically posture through intermediaries but deliver a forceful warning of "grave consequences" to PDRK.
7) USA will provide PDRK with a few million in humanitarian aid.
8) USA will provide ROK with a few million in matching economic aid.
9) Kim Jong II is sick or dying and will accelerate the transition to Kim Jong-un. This heightened exchange is all about PRDK demonstrating there is no internal transition power struggle and Kim Jong-un is just as "capable" as his father.
10) Japan will spin out but do nothing.
11) Ultimately, an international coalition will pay millions (in gross excess of worth) to PDRK to dismantle their uranium enrichment facility but only after proposals to dial it back to power-generation grade uranium have gone on for years. In the interim, PDRK makes enough weapons-grade uranium for a handful of nukes which they will not acknowledge for a few more years.

Net result:
1) China's influence grows stronger with PDRK and ROK.
2) PDRK obtains millions in cash and ends up with a few nukes, prolonging their ultimate economic demise.
3) ROK increases trading with China.
4) China's economic legion marches on. Hint: keep an eye on Taiwan/Formosa in about 5 years.
5) USA whizzes away cash with nothing to show for it. But we feel better.
