How about a perk transport!
« on: November 26, 2010, 10:11:42 AM »
Being a rubbish fighter pilot, I often do the grunt work of running supplies and cargo which I enjoy. It's rather frustrating though when there is no fighter cover and are totaly at the mercy of enemy guns. How about adding the Li-2 or J-52 as a perk plane to give us a fighting chance in desperate times. Any thoughts on this?

Well the Li-2 was pretty much the same things as a C-47 (with a few guns), but +1 on the Ju-52. I do not see a reason to perk it though, just decrease the ENY a bit.

No.

J-52 - Is a type of turbojet engine, not an airplane. These engines were used on planes such as the A-4 Skyhawk and A-6 Intruder. The HMS Guysborough was a Bangor Class minesweeper ship that also used the J-52 tag in the Canadian Royal Navy. Again, this is not an aircraft.

Li-2 - We technically already have this in game, as it was a licensed built DC-3, which is also the C-47 in game. The only difference between the Li-2 and the C-47 in game is that it was equipped with three 7.62mm machine guns and one 12.7mm machine gun. Hardly enough to defend oneself from BnZ'ing ponies and La-7s. The Li-2 would not be perked simply because it does not have enough guns to protect itself and is way too slow to be of any sort of threat to any plane in the game.

So, not only are you suggesting we trade about 60mph for a few rifle caliber machine guns, which would deter nobody, but you're saying we should pay for it too?

No thank you.

ok plazus, you obdviously knew I meant Ju-52. Why not add a variant of the dc-3? we have many variants of fighters, some being perked for being uber. To say the firepower is not a threat shows you probably have never, or rarely fly transport. Any firepower is better than none (most of us are aware of the famous BAR kill of a Zero by a c-47 pilot). Also, the Li-2 had nearly 1300 engineering changes over the dc-3, with cruise speed being only 8mph slower than the c-47. I proposed a perk transport to liven up the job of moving mud without altering the gameplay. karnak, try running some cargo into a heavily contested base. You'd be surprised how fast the perks add up.

blazinggun,

I would much rather have an extra 60mph rather than the three machine guns on a Ju52.  60mph faster speed means a significantly lower amount of time in enemy air space before the drop and that is far more likely to save you than a few popguns on the Ju52.

I voted yes.

We need an axis transport for special events, and a few guns can not hurt.

But there is absolutely no reason to perk it.

Wasn't there some sort of American super transport plane? I think it was called the commando?

I would love to see the Ju-52 added.  As for a perked transport type, Junkers Ju 290. :devil

I always thought the C-46 would be cool, but i don't think it would perform any different in game then the  C-47. I think the real perked transport would be the C-54 Skymaster. I'm not sure there are any other good cargo planes that were used. Was the ME323 cargo plane made in any number?

Yes there was a C-46, but there was nothing "super" about it.
