no, it isn't.

what is essential to understanding the construction of english, is for students to pay the eff attention to what they're being taught in english.

if anyone is going to learn a second language, it should be those that do not know english.

when i went to school, it was voluntary, and i took 2 years of spanish. it was a waste of time. i passed easily, and still couldn't even begin to hold a conversation in spanish.

I learned today, in Physics, that AC/DC was named after a sewing machine. Because the AC(Alternating Current)/DC(Direct Current) was created within a Sewing Machine. That Sewing machine was one of the first sewing machines that had a battery and was chargeable. The Leader of the group, thought it was cool, so he named his rock band after the Sewing machine.

So AC/DC doesn't stand for some super "cool rocked out" name.

right around here, i'd have to learn the different dialects of indian(if there is more than one), spanish, and russian. that is of course assuming i was going to cater to those not willing to assimilate into our society....but i should stop here before i get meself skuzzified.

Probabally the best spanish to be taught is this phrase

"Excuse me, can I see your green card please?"

Lets see how many spanish speaking people are around after that

CAP as I said I agree that the reason she is learning Spanish is a terrible one, but nonetheless having a second language in your tool set is a great thing.

Right idea, wrong reason.  Having a second language (regardless of which one it may be) at or near fluency is a plus in almost any career path, and allows the language side of your brain to develop differently.  Young minds pick up new languages much more easily than old ones.  As I said though, that justification is a bunch of crap.

Nah, the justification is the reasons you described.  A lot of business to be done using the Spanish language.  Cap is just upset that it is Spanish.  Had it been German he would have been praising the school for doing so.  They are doing the same to our school and the reasons stated were not kids that don't speak English.  That is a bunch of you know what  :lol

no, really i wouldn't.

this is something that should be either the students choice, or if they're too young, then their parents choice. i don't have issues with learning another language......but rather i have issues with our kids being forced to learn another language.

and as for other people coming here not knowing english? if i see that they're trying, i work with them. when i get someone that simply wants me to talk to them in their language.....not gonna happen.

the indian guys that pump gas out front of my shop are perfect example. they have actually learned to understand english fairly decently. they have serious trouble speaking it though, and they try like hell to talk to me in english.....so i do my best to try to understand them, and i try to teach them how to pronounce words they have trouble with too.

well, they are forced to learn geography, math, physics, etc.  Why not a language?  It cannot be parents or kids choice since we cannot have a teacher for every language.  So why not pick the most popular second language in this country?  In mine they pick the most popular there (French or English and some German here and there).

because you do not need a second language. it can be helpful, but it is not necessary. the subjects you mentioned are pretty much necessary.

when i said it should be the parents choice, i didn't mean that you should be able to choose which language, but whether or not your child is taught whichever language is being offered.

and again, they even told my brother thagt they're teaching the kids spanish so that they can communicate with their non-english speaking fellow students.........

Really? You use differential equations a lot in your life?  Calculating current and magnetic fields a lot?  Creating complex organic components?  A second or third language would be more helpful to people.

You know, I will keep calling BS on that.  It does not make any sense. Never heard of it. It is easier to just teach them English. bla bla bla.  I wont deny that some idiot might have thought that was the reason and they may have relay that to you or your brother, but comon.  Some common sense eh?  We both know the problem is that it is the language the "illegals" use and that is what bugs people about Spanish.

i actually do deal with current......remember? i fix cars? diagnose, and repair em? you'd be surprised how many problems are caused by something as simple as the wrong lightbulb(which flows a different current).

maybe you';re right on that.....maybe my brother misunderstood what he was told.

and the "illegals" use spanish, german, russian, indian....whatever country they come from, that is the language they';re gonna use.......

it would bug me just as much with any other language.....
