before Pokemania started...

this is what people of all ages went gaga and   all over the world

at one time this cartoon was the MOST SEARCHED keyword on Yahoo, and Yahoo back then was still the king!

nah before pokemon it was all about this...which was the shizznitz!

I know where you're coming from. I used to get up a bit early for work and watch the kids cartoon program with them in the morning, Spiderman, The X-Men, The Tick and other great cartoons with some form of storyline. Over the period of about two years all this stuff was replaced by Japanese cartoons. Cheap rubbish really.

say what? a lot of anime has wayy better animation than american cartoons (especially nowadays), not too mention a few hundred episodes worth of story line.  Now I like tom and jerry as much as the next person but we all knew tom was never gotta get him and every episode was gonna be a fail attempt. :D

If anime is cheap rubbish what is this?

its like animators don't even have to know how to draw anymore

Another social fab that people do in droves not actually knowing why they are doing it.

Anyone ever heard of No Shave November?  It was originally to raise awareness for prostate cancer but now it's just the 'cool' thing to do.

That's why instead of cartoon pictures, they should use lemmings.

umm how will a cartoon profile pic stop drunk dad from beating his kids? :uhoh

in other news, we all need to donate $10, because the millionaires stars won't tweet or use facebook until we all raise $1,000,000! Hurry  I must know what kim kardashian and other celebs ate for lunch!

Its to raise awareness about child abuse. Some of you are on here talking crap about fads and stuff but I bet most of you buy those little pink ribbons for breast cancer awareness. Tell me how this is any different?

1. I actually don't

2. The difference?  Breast Cancer awareness and the whole pink campaign... works.  It's simple and actually raises awareness and money.  Okay, now everyone knows your favorite childhood cartoon, I'm aware of child abuse now.

So you think your $1 actually helps? I hardly think so, after all the money that has gone into trying to stop cancer.

at least when you buy the little ribbon you donate some small amount which may add up to something if enough people do it. Some sort of attempt is being made, changing a profile pic is about as helpful as a supportive fart.

Given the money may not be effective at all, a cancer patient may like to see that some sort of positive attempt is being made. Whereas a abused child may see this more as a slap to the face as it does absolutely nothing but still gives people a reason to pat themselves on the back. Maybe like if u were getting jumped by a group of people and when it all done a friend standing to the side says "hey check out this new dance, it means I think what just happened to you is wrong" wow thx

IMHO - "Support" hardly counts when it doesn't cost anything, and when it doesn't do anything other than make the "supporter" feel like he's doing good.

And honestly - how does seeing a cartoon avatar make the unaware person aware of child abuse?  If he heard about the sheeple thing, he was already aware, and if he hadn't heard about it how can he know why everybody has Scooby Do up instead of their own pictures?

I don't think it's so much that everyone wants to change their profile picture, but they feel like they are making a difference, and letting other people know that they care.

I changed mine, because I wanted other people to know that I care (although I changed it to quagmire)
