Call me a throwback, but I'm still running Win95R2. I tried 98 but it cut into my AH framerate and I just canna allow that to happen! I run 98 at work and have considered 2kPro, but until I actually need the new features, I see no need to upgrade. Everything runs fine and fast at home and tolerable at work. (can't play AH at work - just bad for the business image)
Win98 was born when MS was trying to cripple Netscape by tying Internet Explorer in every which-way possible even though it was at the expense of stability and efficiency. Win98 took the hit and Win2k was an attempt to recover from that and get the Justice Department off their back... besides fixing all the bugs.
WinME is just an egotistically-named interim release (Win2k bastardized-lite) with a few kernel tweaks so MS could rake in yet another wheelbarrow of cash.
The laugh is the promo for WinXP - another revision to miss. They are promoting it for "everyone else" and used somebody's mom to demo how easy it is to use. Translation - it is insanely protected from tweaking and overburdened by crap to help the people that don't have a clue how to put grandbaby Jessica's picture up as wallpaper. Oh, and they changed the default colors. I'll drop $150 to upgrade for that... not.
So when is HTC coming out with a Linux version of AH?
