Idea about reducing the adv of stick stirring
« on: December 13, 2010, 02:16:08 PM »
The background:

Correct me if I'm incorrect, but I believe the way the game works is by sending UDP packets at a fixed interval, around 100ms or so.

The Idea:
To decrease the delay between the packets being sent so instead of being 100ms, make it 66. This would provide more packets being delivered about a players position and thus reduce the adv of players twirling their sticks to avoid getting hit when you are on there 6. I bring this up, because its is a common way to game the game, esp if players are in planes that roll fast. This issue is more pronounced when the attacking player is using a weapon with a low rate of fire, where the 'spray and prey' concept does not work as effectively.

Yeah, that's right, you just got your rear handed to you by a fuggly puppet!

:lol  dont spray then ardy i really find it funny when you just sit on the six of the player doing this and watch them flop about then finally ending it with a short controlled burst at D200

It is actually 250ms (unless recently changed).  I asked for the same thing a while back.  I think that the answer was that the smoothing algorithm needs that time interval (or something like that) or that it would not get any better by reducing it.  Don't remember.  However, it is a big problem.  If you get close to someone it is impossible to hit them once the flopping begins.  Its like the FE decides to update their position as soon as you pull the trigger.

Less fun when you are already a poor shot like me, and you have 4 nme cons bearing down on you whilst trying to dispatch some eijit who's yanking his stick all over the shop. :furious

Followed by your plane going boom from their 5 friends coming in to help.  In a one vs one situation it is funny, but when it is raining 190s most of the times, he is the one doing the laughing.

20ft is nothing at 300mph, a decent sneeze would deflect you more. I'm not convinced about the whole stickstirring thing, I rarely see anything which looks like what people describe as stickstirring. the only times ive seen something that didnt look realistically modelled ive checked the films and its been one of those flat plate tumbling things. ymmv.

in this case i will just continue on my way.  sooner or later he will get picked since he gave up lots of e for that stick stirring.

Funny thing is you really dont have to stick stir. A series of barrel rolls, or rudder induced sideslips causes many to miss anyway.
I know I've been accused of stick stirring when all Ive done is a simple barrel roll while looking in my rear view and when I see his plane is pointed the other way pull a hard turn in the opposite direction. sometimes it works. sometimes it doesnt.

Almost as amusing as the stick stir is the Porpoising move some like. heh you can only be up or down. Just like with stick stirring. if you shoot at the center axis your sure to get hits

exactly :aok :aok

I have only experienced this working with planes with guns with a high rate of fire, (Think 50 cal and hispano birds). Try this with a p39 or a k4, and you quickly loose all your ammo with no or maybe one hit (that may just hit the left h-stab).

For those who haven't seen the issue, try this.

Fly next to a squaddie, have them move their stick clockwise quickly (not fast enough to induce the Don't Move Your Stick So Fast message).  Make sure you stay within 600.  You'll see the problem.
