He was, about 5-10 years ago, but he's since descended into meh.
I didnt like it when he 'retired' then came back to the jets, then 'retired' and came back to the vikings (screwing the packers) and 'retired' and came back again.
I can understand how he could do that. He loves playing the game. After so many years at the end of each season its entirely reasonable to think that anyone might have doubts about wanting to play again. then springtime rolls around then summer. And your body feels better And you feel like you should be doing something and you miss it and you realize you can still do it at a pretty high level as was proved last year. So why not come back if its something you love.
Hell, it has to be 15-20 ears since I've so much as played a pickup game of touch. And I'd still like to play just one more game. though I know at 48, that would probobly be a really really big mistake lol.
Its been at least 10 years since I've coached Pop Warner. And every summer I still wish I was out there. Football. Real football. Not the kind you watch on TV. Thats only real to them. real football is something your involved in. something you take part in/of. It gets in your blood. If youve never been a part of it there is no way I can ever explain it to you. but if you have. then you know exactly what I'm talking about.
Once it becomes a part of you. its easy to say "I've had enough. I quit." but its much harder to actually do.
To put some kind of perspective on it. How many have said "I quit AH. Only to keep coming back a few weeks or months later?
Same kinda thing.
I think this year after the championship game he had every intention of not playing till he was talked out of it. and it hasnt been a great year.
Granted Favre hasnt played well. but it hasnt been all his fault either. thanks to tildeath I've been able to watch almost ever game this year. and its hard to play at a high level when your missing your favorite target for 2/3 of the year (Rice) and your go to man (Taylor)on 3rd down moved to another team.
Add to that and offensive line thats played very poorly and the remaining receivers running wrong routes, Dropping balls and sometimes flat out falling down isnt going to get you a very high QB rating.
