Why do we have 2 threads by the same guy on the same topic on top of a wishlist forum?

One needs:
"Now, if I had to make the choice of one fighter aircraft above all the others...it would be, without any doubt, the world's greatest propeller driven flying machine - the magnificent and immortal Spitfire."
Lt. Col. William R. Dunn
flew Spitfires, Hurricanes, P-51s, P-47s, and F-4s

The first thread was to talk about it. The second was to vote on it. Both have been great to read. The general answers seems to be yes with any where from a few to a dozen planes before this one. No need to lock either though. Only interested parties are reading, which seems to include you.

As far as I can see people are talking about it in the other thread as well.

Also HTC usually adds the aircraft that they put in the pole first. I expect to see at least half of the following until they add any other aircraft mentioned in the wishlist, and the p61 has been in the wishlist for a very long time.

Quote from: HTC's Poll of 2010
Pe-2 - Russian Medium Bomber
Ki-45 Toryu "Nick" - Japanese Attack / Heavy Fighter
Ki-43 Hayabusa "Oscar" - Japanese Fighter
Beaufighter - British Attack / Heavy Fighter
Me 410 - German Attack / Heavy Fighter
He 111 - German Medium Bomber
A-26 Invader  - American Light Bomber / Attack
B-29 Superfortress - American Heavy Bomber

This one could've died... If we hadn't resurrected it.

So you want a plane that was built after the Japanese learned about LW "heavy fighter" Bf110s, designed in 1937, first flown in 1939, and didn't undergo much improvement until late 1941 where they met and were wiped from the skies by P-40s.....?

Many were built. Few were really used. The fighter variants that met P-40s several times in 1942 in group encounters simply proved the plane was no suitable for combat. They were repeatedly destroyed.

They were put into "home defense" which -- yes -- did include chasing B-29s... However the actual "combat" was lacking as the plane could neither climb to nor catch the B-29s.

Their last claim to fame in a terrible combat career was as kamikaze attacks on US warships nearing the Japanese islands.

-10,000 for inclusion into this game. Not very necessary.

EDIT: Just so you know... The Ki-45 had a FTH of less than 10,000 feet, at which it only reached 330mph (above 10k that would drop significantly) and a ceiling of 32k which was wholly inadequate to chase down B-29s cruising at 350mph and 32k

J2M "Jack" or Ki-44 "Tojo" would make a better B-29 interceptor, if B-29s had to use cruise settings.

Against B-29s flying at full throttle I can't think of any Japanese fighter that has a chance in Hell of being effective.

No, I think he is calling me a fool or something similar. No worries.

In politics, which is what I do for a living, you keep the discussion fresh. Amazing how many people dislike the P-61, or at least want 10-30 planes before we get the P-61 but really enjoy explaining it. It's all good.

And let me add that the other one thread regarding the petition has more activity then this one, even though it is newer.

I don't hate the P-61, my first ever model plane was the Black Widow. I don't want 30 planes added before the Black Widow, but there are certainly more pressing aircraft. Like I said, definitely not 30, but the HE-111 and the Ki-45 and the Pe-2 are certainly planes that would do a great deal more in the area of adding diversity than another American craft.

P-61 is a beauty, though.  :aok

Definately has nothing to do with dislike.  In the end it's HTC's call anyway.  I just try and look at it from a history perspective and how things might be used in other arenas beyond the MA.  61 is a beauty, but in the end it was not much more then a footnote compared to some other birds that aren't there yet like......wait for it......The Beaufighter! :)

So a Beaufighter has a 120mm cannon slung underneath it? Ok, not a 120mm but looks big enough. I'd vote for a Beaufighter and if AH would add a convoy to beat up I think it would be a pretty good rush. Would it be scored an attack run or bomber?

Beaufighter did it all.  Night fighter, Attack, fighter bomber, Torpedo bomber etc.  40-45 in every theater of the war.  USAAF guys transitioned from them to 61s at the very end of the war.
