C-47s!

Rearmed a goon on a carrier after a lone fighter killed a troop, was pretty funny hearing some of the comments.

Just chop throttle the last couple feet to wheels on deck. Raise hook when stopped. I am biased but the best planes have tailhooks. Keep practicing, have fun...and FLY NAVY !!  :airplane: :salute

As soon as im Stopped i raise the tail hook as if you watch like top gun when you see the F14 land and as soon as he's at a stop the brakes are on and Tailhook goes up. i believe this has been common practice for carrier landings since the carrier was born. As in real life all it takes is for dopey dinah to say plane cleared arrester wires and when they crank the wire in OH Dear expensive plane GOES BYE BYE and of the rear of the Deck. :) ( Not a pleasant thought that one is )

You're doing it wrong....... Probably too much E..... 120 is way too fast, try to get below 105, but most birds can land below 100.

The 2nd question is answered with......  You are too far forward!

You can land at any airspeed that the gear don't break off with the hook and stop normally, if you can get the tail down. Being forward has nothing to do with it, except since the wires don't stretch, you might lose your "grip" and go flying off the bow.

I think they fixed this... :(

I can't re-arm troops or supplies on carriers anymore.  I guess you have to end the sortie to get new cargo in the C-47, or at least that's what's happened to me.

No, actually you can't, and 5 people have already described why. (buggy) But hey, if you have FILM of you landing some 300 mph Hog, by all means, share it with us?

And...... The "too far forward part" is talking about his 2nd issue.  What are you talking about?

I read this thread some what perplexed, never having experienced the described.  Then I realized I never land planes with hooks on carriers, just P-38s :lol.

:lol                      I've seen the slingshot effect happen once.

I have been flung off the carrier backwards when crashing my A6M2 on the deck.
Was slow and sinking and broke the great, slid half sideways and then the wire flung me off backwards to my doom.

If I am NOT mistaken, in real life, when landing on a CV, as you touchdown you must jam the throttle forward in case you missed the wire or the wire breaks, you have enough power to take off again and don't splash into the sea directly in front of the carrier path.

I used to experience the 'sling shot' effect described, because I would power up just at touchdown.  I found out / figured out that in here, the power up against the arresting-wire, caused the slingshot and will throw you off the back or off the right-back of the CV.

Easy fix.....  don't power up on landing.  :rock

In the WWII era, they cut throttle, pulled the stick back (with feet off the rudder pedals to prevent jamming on the toe brakes) and tried to stall onto the deck. That's a good technique to emulate . . .  ;)

Yup, and if you follow that approach, ANY plane in AH lands just fine on carrier. 7 ton jug stops before conning tower. If the hook is needed to make you stop, your approach was less than perfect.
