My draw to airsoft over paintball was just the guns. I like the realistic appearance. If they managed to do it with paintball, I may have gone for that too.

I recently saw a paintball gun very similar in appearance to an M-16/AR-15, except barrel diameter of course.

That would have been a lot cooler than the goofy looking things we had back in those days.

Of course back in those days I probably wouldn't have been able to afford one.

I've seen a few cheap ones at WalMart which were pretty ugly, but that's walmart lol.

as far as i know its the same as paintball just with smaller projectiles and (obviously) no paint.

And cheaper.

"Green gas is just propane, buy an adapter and don't waste your money."

Interesting. Why not add a small sparkpug into barrel and get a serious increase in muzzle velocity.  :lol

What is the purpose of these guns? Not to be a smart alec, I'm just curious.

They fire soft pellets correct? Are they suitable for targets? and they don't mark with paint so are they suitable for  games?

What do you guys do with them?
Its the Honor system, if you get hit you call hit and respawn. Thing about airsoft aside from painball is its more realistic, guns look real.

Then again, considering you've got a JG, a WE and some other random Chinese pistol... ;)

Jim

Squid got into it when he was 14 or so and I started digging into it.  Wound up buying both of us a couple of Beretta gas blowbacks.  They shoot a teflon or plastic pellet at varying FPS.  There weren't any fields close to us but he and his friends found a creek bed to play in.  I enjoyed mine and got a lot of laughs plinking squirrels.

They are fairly effective for getting the attention of a recalcitrant canine or teenager as well.  No I didn't shoot the dog but throwing a round into a corner near them once  was enough to make them go 'nope not me I wasn't barking after you told me to shut up' when they heard the slide jack.  Teenagers? well one in the thigh when they had their dog ears on is an attention getter.

Back when I was playing paintball most of the guns were pump action. I've seen some of the latest semi autos that look like M-16's and AK's.

Wish we had those back then.

Hell, they have fully automatic paintball guns now.  Insanity.

I've never tried airsoft... what is the typical range of the projectiles out of, say, a rifle look-a-like (as opposed to a short barreled pistol thing)?  Accuracy?

QFT. Bought one or two cheapos as a kid (About $100 each). They were fun, but not too much accuracy. I got lucky on a spring which shot a MUCH higher FPS than advertised, but the other was, well, it's money's worth.

Moved on to a Tokyo Marui M-16 vietnam edition... beautiful! Cost about $500 all said and done to get the FPS bumped up to a reasonable number, and ship to me, but it was worth it! I sold her before I left Hawaii, and was gonna buy a new one here... never got around to it though.

With my spring 'sniper' rifle, at about 475 fps, (Higher end for casual matches) I kept it inside 200 yards. With the 6x optical zoom scope it came with, accuracy was... well... indoors without and wind, I could probably hit a person at 100 yards. 200 was just to shoot trees and general areas.

F22RaptorDude,

Do you know why I'd throw you out of my range facility based on these photos alone?  I'd offer you to come back to take a beginners firearm safety course but you'd be asked to leave for what you're doing.

Fix it.  Don't do it again.  Certainly don't post pictures of being a bad example and forming some very dangerous habits.

I don't like the kid golfer but he isn't doing anything unsafe he is actually being sacred because he is buying low quality guns that aren't powerful or accurate I used to go out and have fun in the woods with my airsoft guns when I was a bit younger we would wear saftey glasses and have battles for hours it is all good fun and doesn't support bad habits when handling real firearms

I'm sorry, I dont get it. if its based on an honor system why not run around the woods with cap guns? (like I did as a kid). Why would you spend a bunch of money on something that doesnt give you any feedback as to whether or not you actually hit something. I must be missing something here.

Here is some new ammo I picked up for my sidearm.

This ammo can actually follow a moving target.

This ammo is good for non moving targets and has more bite
