Everything about that Eagle was big :aok  Just out of curiousity, you guys even use the 30mm pod?
Not sure what kind of F-15s you drive.

I flew the F-15E.  We never flew with any sort of gun pod, just the internal 20mm.  Supposedly there is a new 20mm system being developed but I don't know if it will ever get fitted to anything.  The F-15E gun system is a bit weak (plastic rollers in the feed system, believe it or not) and if the gun isn't "exercised" routinely, it will often jam and break the feed system after a hundred or so rounds.  It was never supposed to be a system we used all the time, but the gun got used a lot in Iraq and Afghanistan so they had to re-think the system so it would be more reliable.  Not sure if they came up with anything really different other than maintaining it better though.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

No, it was an AK.  Apparently those types of jam's are fairly common, I don't own it though, so I can't comment on how much it happens from experience.

Do you know what kind of AK is what he's asking.  a Wasr-10 is a low end imported AK  SAR-1s were also low end.  As with any rifle the quality of the work makes a difference.  Same thing applies to AR-15s.  You can spend a little and get little or spend a lot and get more with spots everywhere in between.

Any AKs in the US are imported and most likely are built on US built recievers by any number of countries.  You used to be able to buy kits that included everything but the reciever but in the last couple years those kits don't include the barrel so you have to purchase a US built barrel and then find a good gun smith to put the thing together for you.

My son's first AK was an SAR-1 and he learned a lot about AKs with that one.  It was also, for lack of a better word, the sloppiest of his AKs in terms of tolerances and reliability.  The custom built AK-74 he had done is an absolute beauty and shoots really well.  The PKMS underfolder he had built on a US reciever with a Polish kit is somewhere in between.

Problem is when folks say AK they think it's all the same, and it's not.

Nah, no idea as it was my buddy's gun.  However, I do recall him saying he put down a a lot on it, so I'd hope it'd be something at least average.  I suppose what you say holds true to any gun.  My experience seemed to match up with what I've read about them, however.

Like I said, I was just stating my experience, so take it with a grain of salt.  Who knows, the next one I shoot might be even more solid than the R700 and AR we were shooting.

I have to go way back 30 years to when I was about 7 years of age, and me and my dad was out hunting..
After a long days walk my dad decided it was about time I got to try the 10 gauge shotgun, to get a feel of it.
So he found a spot where I could safely fire a shot, and told me to have a go at it.  :x

The gun was a Marlin Firearms Shotgun model 5510 Original Super Goose 10 Gauge loaded with Magnum ammo, and it was too heavy for me to hold steady. So my dad placed his backpack on the ground and set the gun ready for me on top of it.
I went down on my knees and grabbed hold of the gun and aimed for a pine tree not too far away, with about 4" trunk size where I aimed at it.

When I pulled the trigger the gun raised so hard it went out of my hands and I rolled onto my back, but I registered the tree trunk got split in two in a cloud of woodchips just before I went down. And when I looked back at the tree it seemed like it was still standing at first, but it had actually moved about 3feet away off its treestump and landed straight down into the ground in perfect balance. It took a few seconds before it finally tilted over and went down.

I have shot that gun many times later, but I never forget that first time and the huge impression it left on me..

My personal favorite is skeet with my dad's over-under 16 guage, my favorite shotgun guage that is unfortunatley on the verge of extinction.  We have an agreement in his will, he gets to be buried with his 12 ga. if I get to keep all the 16s.  :D
Agree about the 16 gauge . I had one , well still do up at mother's . It's a 16 gauge pump by JC Higgins (spelling?) That I shot skeet for year's with and it was the best shooting shotgun I ever shot . I wore it smack out  .
Had a sweet 16 gold trigger that I wore smack out too and sold . Wish I had it back .

Gotta be the M-1 Carbine. Serious gun but light and pleasant to shoot. Better than most handguns but not as formidable as many rifles, a classic carbine.

Sweeeet shotgun your dad has/had there.  And now you know why some of my fondest teenage memories during my age 16 and 17 summers was of teaching the shotgun merit badge to much younger (and smaller, scrapyier, and - my personal favorite - the overconfident loud mouths) scouts.  You can tell who the idiots are that didn't pay attention to my first lecture and wouldn't likely pass, so I'd always select them first to shoot infront of the rest of the class and then give them the choice of the 20 or 12 ga... most those wise-guys that chose the 12 ga. wouldn't even bother coming back the next day they'd be so embarased, lol.

The LAW Launcher!!!  I do not dispute that you taught men how to use them... but... could you teach them to hit what they were aiming at with it (beyond like 50 yards)?  :devil

It is always fun to watch a young bigmouth firing off a 12ga shotgun for the first time, often resulting in a sore shoulder.  :lol

One mistake often done by newbies is not keep a firm pressure against the shoulder before firing, which will leave quite a bruise after a few rounds with the 12ga.
The 10ga will probably do the same, but instead of slamming into your shoulder in a split second it seems to give you more of a hard push.

When I shot both the 12ga and the 10ga after one another I noticed it was hard not to take one step backwards after pulling the trigger with the 10ga. If I did not stand properly secure one foot infront of the other and slightly leaning forward I would have to take one step backwards for sure. The 10ga is alot heavier, so that alone would give it alot of push. But you sure feel a big difference in power alone when comparing the two.
It sure is a fine shotgun the big Marlin, and I don't think there is too many of them around either. Atleast not here in Norway.

Here's a picture of the shotgun, its not my dad's old gun but a pic of the same type.

My dad has a lever action .444 Marlin that we shoot from time to time.  Big bada boom!

I remember the first day we shot it...  I felt like a lumber jack choppin down all those poor trees.  The .444 ammo is around $35 a box now, so we use it pretty sparingly anymore.
