For what it's worth, the story is now making the rounds.  It was front page in my local paper.  Apparently Winters asked that news of his death be withheld until after his funeral which was on the 8th.

It seems the media respected his wishes.

Just found that note as well.  

He felt he was just a normal man who did what he had to do at the time.

I don't think anyone would deny he was anything less than a true hero.

You could tell how humble he was in the interviews he had inside and outside of Band of Brothers.  Pretty incredible guy... :salute :pray

Quite possibly. Perhaps to make it easier to have the private funeral.
