Advanced Arena = Tour

Just a simple idea here if folks were up to the challenge of something new, but hoping that, it would also be simple to code. 

This idea involves using the dreaded ENY in a different way.  The idea is to promote a mini "career" everytime someone logs into this separate arena.

  This is how it would work.  Beginning your mini career (first sortie upon logging into the arena), your ENY value will be set at a level that will allow you a certain range of planes.  Your career kicks in when you successfully land a sortie with at least one kill or damage done to objects.  A calculator will decrease your ENY accordingly. 

  A lot of ways this could be tweaked, ranging from reset of ENY every time a pilot does not lands, every time a pilot does not bail successfully in friendly territory, every time a pilot is killed, or simply reset only when a pilot logs in / off the arena.

  The purpose of the arena is to offer "advanced" players an additional challenge to achieve / work for their uber perked rides, every time they log in.  This idea is partially formed from the thirst for some sort of Tour, and partially from observing "elite" pilots with huge bank of perk points, willing to spend them at random, to the point, that certain planes are almost exclusively being flown in the Main Arenas (please excuse if whine was recorded, was intended as more of an observation).

Empty or not, is this something worthy of consideration.  There was a large following for the Tour of Duty update that has been shelved.  I am not asking for the full blown tour, AI aircraft, awards and rank.  This is simply a different way of tallying ENY and "forcing" smaller numbers in the premium rides.

If not a dedicated arena, how about an arena option that could be used in Special Arenas and H2H when it makes it's appearance.

I can believe it if someone said that the code would take to much time to develop.  That I understand well, because the developers are busy enough without adding labor intensive Arena tweak options.

I don't believe however, that the definitive answer is that no one would use it so let's not.  That is your opinion.  In fact, if we had more WWI planes, I think this sort of goal oriented play, would be just what the doctor ordered to perk up the WWI arena.  Can you imagine, if you had to work your way up to flying the DVII?  On top of that just learning how to land one of those crates should earn you a medal.

Not totally true. Some of us lesser players are here to get better. Going up against the better pilots is one way to learn. Perhaps those that are here to collect points might leave.

You are working to get better, but why? Just for your satisfaction, not for points. Now picture coming into an arena where you have to fly an inferior aircraft against superior aircraft flown by players much better than you. How long would you last? 3 good players can kill and keep down 10-15 poor players in weak planes. After an hour all you would learn is that no matter what you did they could and WOULD eat you for lunch! You would almost never get a kill, never mind ever landing one. You would forever be a "newbie" never advancing.

Im not that competitive. I dont do things for points..I do it because I enjoy it and have an interest in WWII aviation. Ive already been shot down way more than most, and have only a few kills. You dont get really good at something unless you can practice for endless hours. I dont have that kind of time.

HTC is in business to make money and they do this by having people come back each month. An arena described as this one would be more empty than the WWI or AvA arena and be no help at retaining people. It would be just a waste of time to build.

To go along with what Fugi said, the VAST majority of players here only care about getting kills and slapping each other on the back with WTG's when they land multiple kills.  I'm afraid you will find precious few players who will fly and fight FOR the fight and allow you even a chance to shoot them down or *gasp* land any of your kills.

You will not get better if the "must rack up kills as fast as I can" types blow you out of the sky within seconds of engaging you.

Flip it.  Make those that are more advanced move into lesser birds.  The absolute uber sticks will eventually be killing everyone in Vals or Goonies.  To be in a 262, Tempest, 163 etc would be the complete sign of newbieness and dweebdom then

1) What Fugitive and many others don't get, is that there are numerous paying customers, flying in the AvA, WWI and other Special Arenas and for some of them, those are the arenas that are keeping their accounts open, not the Main Arena.

2) What Fugitive describes is exactly what is currently in play in the Late War Main Arena.  The advanced pilots have perks built up the wazoo.  Grizz and Kappa both excellent pilots and wingmen, dominate in 262s as well as, let's say Hellcats.  The MA newb barely knows enough not to lift from a capped airfield.  Yet, he may be unlucky enough to have to fight as many as 3 or 4 262s in his unperked aircraft, and under ENY circumstances, further handicapped to fly lesser equipment.  Sure, if all I have to do is fly and land 3 or 4 sorties and I am now a Jet ace then, I can see how players in about 30 minutes or so would be able to severely outclass their opponents, but who would have settings that light?

3) Time after time, I have been told that a few moments in the Axis versus Allies Arena delivered more fun than months of flying in other Main Arenas. http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,304173.0.html  That is an arena with only a few planes enabled.  The Dueling Arena seems to do fairly well, especially the furball area.  I guess the time spent on developing these areas was a waste in your opinion.  Plus, simply adding this as a Arena Setting available to Special Events Arenas and H2H hosts (in the future) would not take up any more server space than already used since adding a new arena I admit is a huge leap.

I sure am glad that HTC doesn't have such a dim view of its customers.

the numbers don't even come close. AvA has 20-30 regulars, WWI less. The special arenas get a lot more action, but it's only at special times.

yes they have tons of perks, so do I. There are two reasons for this, 1 we all fly different types of planes including those that build perks fast, and second and more importantly, we almost never use them. I've seen the AoM run a few flights in 262s just for fun. And yes they are very good with them. On the other hand I don't see them spending all their time chasing down newbs either.

I pop into the AvA now and then and find pickers, gangers, and HOers. The only differance I've found between AvA and the MA is it takes LONGER to get to a fight in the AvA due to the lower numbers. Of course that has been only "my" experience, there are some who have a good time there.

When you ask for opinions on a board like this you have to take what you get. Everyone has an opinion and like it or not they are NOT going to always just agree with yours. While I don't know what HT thinks of "us" I'm sure he has a very dim view of quite a few of us

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the Training Arena.     Awesome job there too.

The main arena is the "main" attraction.  Still, something must have prompted the split to late, mid and early war arenas.  I suggest that it is just the subject that I am discussing here in this thread. 

Well, it was a shot at something different.  I guess it's back to the WW1 arena to try and figure out those crates again.  Possibly, if they allowed F3 views, it might pick up in popularity.  The visibility/ head movement is really poor with bi and tri planes.
