Every day Im on the roads. And every day I see you fools of all ages driving and either Yakking on your cell phones or texting.

 Yea you. You THINK you can do both and both well at the same time. News flash hotshots. You cant see yourselves from the outside. NO you cant. I can spot you from 1/4 mile away. Its easy cause your NOT driving like everyone else. Either going really slow and slowwly drifting back and forth in your lane, Hitting the breaks at the very last moment at red lights. Missing your turns then slightly pulling off to the side before realizing your too far gone. Driving faster changing lanes suddenly or like the slow guy, drifting ack and forth. Or just drifting back and forth. Slowing down for seemingly no reason then speeding up again only to do it all over again and an entire host of other make no sense things. At first one looks and says "what the hell is this guy/woman up to?" then you catch up and you either see them looking down at their phones or trying to pretend they are resting the side of their head against their hand as though bored. Trying to hide the cell thinking they are slick and have the same driving skill as everyone else

No you cant. And no you dont. You think your somehow special? Born with some sort of special skill set? Your not and you havent been.
I'm sure these 4 in the video all thought they were special too. The "ultimate multitasker" as I think one was described.
How long does it take to type "LOL" , "where u at" , "where r" and "yea"?

Thats how long it took for these "ultimate multitaskers" to find out they werent anything special. they didnt have any kind of special skill set.

Dont do it to yourself. Dont do it to your families. And more important. dont do it to anyone elses.
The life you dont ruin might be someone I care about.

Too many variables on the road, all constantly changing. You look down at your phone, thinking you have the situation under control. Then you look up, and see how wrong you are.

Thanks for posting Dred.  I re-posted on FB for all my friends to see.  It's a real eye-opener, but the sad thing is people will still text and drive after watching the video.  That's just how ignorant we are today.

I really don't know what to say aside from post and share this as much as possible.  One video won't stop this from happening, but if only one person that sees it decides to pull off the road before texting, it's worth it.

Lost my 19yo brother and his wife because he wasn't paying attention to the road almost 8 years ago. They left behind a 7 week old son at the time. Talking on the phone and texting are the most common problems out there right now but they are by far not the only things that can distract you. Please people, for the sake of the people who love you and everyone else sharing the road with you pull you heads out of your .... and pay attention to the driving.

well if my sister ever gets her licence (she probably will soon) i can guarantee that she will start to text/drive. she can hardly go 1 hour without a phone and it really worries me sometimes....maybe i have to hit her in the head with a chair so she doesnt wake up until her phone has finally blown up?

In AR it is illegal for anyone under 21 to yammer/text while driving.

NOT strict enough.

People in this state are HORRIBLE drivers as it is (no mandatory Drivers Ed) and don't need any more distractions than the normal stupidity allows.

If caught yammering/texing and a vehicular death is involved--it should be vehicular homicide with negligence with mandatory minimum prison time.

After Bubba dances with them a few years they might get the hint.

Wow, are you serious?  No wonder I felt more in danger that night on my way to Texas.  I witnessed several "near misses."

Shouldnt be an age thing. should simply be illegal. Period.

I've yet to meet the person who can text/yammer on a handheld and drive and still be driving as well as they were when they werent testing/yammering. Yet every one of them thought they could do it just fine. Myself included. I thought I could talk on a hand held just fine. I always said it was the dialing that was the dangerous part.
Then one day I was yakking with my wife when a guy in the opposing lane ran a stop sign and decided to make a left hand turn right in front of me. I was also turning the same direction he was (to my right) I saw it coming and  I narrowly avoided a crash but I immediately noticed that my reaction time was way down. No way should it have been as close as it was. He wasnt going all that fast and I should have had alot more time to either break or avoid. Instead of just barely missing.

Fast forward about 6 months. I'm riding down Rt1 with my daughter in the car in the right hand lane. Green lights the whole way with moderate traffic. Now in this instance I directly attribute my SA  just to my years of AH and AW experience. There is a car in front of me in the same lane. One behind me and one in the left lane and just behind me. As we approach a light I see cars waiting at the red light. Now in this state we can turn right on red provided it is safe to do so and there isnt any "No Right on Red signs" Suddenly some bimbo decides now is a good time to pull out into traffic. My first thought is "we're about to be in an accident" And then I did probobly the fanciest peice of driving I've ever done.

 In a split second I assesed the situation like this.
Even if I lock up the breaks. Im going to hit this car and probably get hit from behind. If I suddenly change lanes which is something I would have normally done but for the car at my 7:00. Me and the guy at my 7 are going to collide. There is no place to go on the right without hitting a telephone pole before I can stop.
I had one chance and one chance only. Instead of slowing down I gave it more gas and moved into the left lane. By doing that I was able to get just far enough ahead of the guy at my 7 to avoid contact then and just slow enough to not hit the bimbo that pulled out into traffic by literally a couple of inches. Then I floored it to put some distance between the guy that was now on my very close 6:00 and myself. Fortunately the left lane was totally clear. Where I ended up was passing along side of the bimbo whom looked over at me glaring at her with a hatred that Medusa coudnt have conjured. What was she doing? Holding a phone to her head. She looked at me and must have been able to read my mind because she immediately dropped the phone into her lap. Im sure the sight of my then terrified 12 year old daughter might have had some effect as well. I was hoping that I would catch her at the next light but she turned off a couple of streets later. Just as well as as angry as I was. I cant promise I wouldnt have beaten her and damn the fact she was a woman. THATS how amped up I was.

I got into my right lane again as my exit was coming up and stopped at the red light. the guy that was behind me was now stopped along side me and I heard him beep his horn and Im thinking this guy is gonna be pissed at me now cause I know I had to scare the sh...hell out of him.
I looked over and he was smiling then pointed at me and gave  me the thumbs up sign and motioned me to roll down my window.

"That was some fancy driving. What the hell was wrong with that person? They nuts or what?"

"Broad on a cell phone" I said

"Figures, I saw he pull out and thought you were going to either hit her or careen into me. GREAT move!"

"Thanks, Sorry if I cut you off I said"

"You did what you had to do. I'm just glad I was paying attention."

The light then turned green and we were both off.
I immediately thought back to the previous accident I avoided when I was on the phone.
Now the entire incident took probably less then 3 seconds and about a third of that was me deciding what to do.

Had I been on the phone again. NO WAY is my reaction time the same and I probably end up slamming into the bimbo or colliding into the guy at my 7:00.

Now I've been with friends who insist on talking on the phone. And I notice that not one have the same where with all or reactions that they have when they arent in spite of them thinking they are doing fine. I dont give a damn who you are, how old you are or what you think your capabilities are. You Cannot talk on a hand held or text while driving and still be the same driver. You cant see you from the outside.

Now I think about my 22 year old son. and how at his age he thinks he's some kind of hotshot. I sent him the video and told him to watch it.
I asked him today if he did or not and he said "I saw the title and I just Xed out of it.

Now he has a choice. 24 hours to either watch it with me or I cancel his account and take a hammer to his phone.
Like I told him.

"I'd rather have a live and healthy son who hates me then a dead one or an invalid that loves me."
I can tell by the look on hi face that he knows I mean it.

And I dont know about where you are. but our driving tests themselves are a joke.

A short obstacle course where you never go faster then 20 MPH and one of the primary parts and hardest perts of the test is parallel parking.
Anyone thats ever driven a go cart as a kid can pass this test and will have driven faster then you experience on these tests

Our driving test is actually pretty good.  You have to make this huge block that goes on the highway and through town.  It covers everything you would see when you're really driving (other than interstate driving) because it actually uses the roads around the office.
