A Boston would be fine too. Pretty fast in the cruise, and costs no perks. I sometimes use it for radar killing, and am dropping at about 300 mph. That is as fast as a heavily loaded fighter can go straight and level.
Which one carries most? P-38 or Jug?
Anyway, very nice thread and thanks for the revision of a tactic well employed in the RL WW2.
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

A bunch of nice, fatty targets at least...
Droop snoot variant didn't have any guns, you know...

You only have one droop snoot, leading the formation.  All the rest are fully functional Lightnings.  The droop snoot leads everyone to the target, and signals when to drop.  Everyone drops.  Now the droop snoot heads for home, and the rest of the formation goes on to dogfight, or strafe the town, or whatever.

For the bomber pilot, you get to run home in  a plane that is much faster than your normal heavy bomber.

The Lightning just the 2-1000 lbs.    :old:

This would not be an accurate statement.  They did carry a pair of 2000 pounders but found that the 'bang for the buck' wasn't worth the extra risk on pull out and the extra sway braces etc that had to be used when they were carried.

If you ever got online you'll learn what happens when you try and dogfight in a B-17 or you can ask Tyrannis what happens.  :devil

im hoping someone looks at the pics, thinks "hm, furballing b29s looks like fun!" and msgs me asking to do it. because it was really fun but none of the fighter dweebs in the DA want to do it.  :(

Both right, in game the P-47 can haul more ordnance because it has the third bomb shackle under the fuselage.  Historically while not used often the P-38 could carry a heavier load than what we get in game.

You would have thought by now that you would've learned that bombers do not make good dogfighters...
