Help..Aceshigh stopped working.exe

Keep getting aceshigh.exe has stopped working after downloading this new patch.  Have Vista home premium. Tried everything I know.No firewalls anti virus off..uninstalling then reinstalling same crap..

Run DXDIAG (Start->Run->DXDIAG), then check the sounds tab(s) and see if the sound driver is running in "Emulated" mode.

Do you hear the background music at startup?

Skuzzy.. for the record I just loaded mine up real quick just now and there was no music, but after going offline it worked fine.

Then I remembered that I had previously turned the music setting in sound options all the way down.  Turned it up, quit, reloaded and there's the music!  Nice touch by the way!

One of the things I have noticed with Vista and Windows 7 users is a high percentage of those computer running with Microsoft supplied audio drivers.  These will work fine for normal Windows operations, but will cause all manner of problems with games which use DirectSound.

I am also seeing people use the virtual mode of Windows, which is not going to be stable at all, for any game.

It is also imperative to keep your Windows (Vista/Windows 7 only) OpenAL drivers up to date if your computer has a Creative Labs, RealTek, or CMedia sound device in it as that is the API those companies route all DirectSound function calls through.

Microsoft really created a mess when they tried to force all sounds to be played through the Windows API.  Now all the sound card companies are supplying different versions of OpenAL with thier drivers and Microsoft is not providing any direct support for it.

Right on... I was just saying that before using the 'music' as a determination of things, make sure their music volume hasn't been turned all the way down in the past.

I do get sound at start up.Crashes after choosing online arena either before or after terrain starts loading.On dxdiag sound devices type:WDM

I have the same problem. Ran DXDIAG, but didn't see anything about emulator on sound tabs. It stops working when I try to log in on online arena and when I try to take off on offline practice. I have to use Ctrl/Alt/Del to force it to close. I haven't been able to play since new patch.

LOL just had to tell yall.  so i right clicked on the aces high icon,,,,,,,,,,,chose properties....than under compatability i swithed it to windows xp..(running Vista) and game now works...............who"d uh thunk
