Me262 are almost always and colossal failure for me, and yesterday I found way number 23 to lose a 262. Ways 1-22 included such classics as augering while diving after bandit, trying to land with one engine and spinning it on approach, crashing into a bomber I was attacking, failing in a rope attempt, to name a few. Number twenty three went like this...
I up and start rolling a 262 at a deserted base in the hopes of flying around the empty sky for some milk running buffs. The plane accelerates very slowly and runs down the runway for what seems like three quarters of it's considerable length. I start to wonder if I'm going to drive off the end and hit a tree. I check the air speed indicator and it's verging on 150mph, so I pull the stick back and rotate the nose up but she does not lift off the ground right away and I'm contemplating pushing the stick forward again, thinkng the anlge of attack might now help keep the plane slow, when the the rumbling stops suddenly stops. She's up! Finally. I pull the gear up and almost immediately I get a slight stall buzzer. Speed 170, I'm ok maybe just bit of forward stick to let it build some speed, I'll be fine..."SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECH" I've touched back down wheels up. The plane slides to a screeching halt with me, the pilot, sitting 1 foot to the right of the runway. Left wing on the runway, but centerline of the plane is about a foot to the right.
System: You have ditched.
