Best way to descend in a B29.
« on: February 24, 2011, 08:25:45 PM »
I found the best (and fastest) way to descend in B29s.

Set your climb speed to 160 and cut the engines, them click on autoclimb, and then just drop your gear and full flaps.

Depending on loadout you should get -3,000 to -4000 fpm rate of descent. You don't have to worry about losing control surfaces or anything.

Best way to descend in ANY bomber.

Step 1: Open up the chat buffer and type .speed 200

Step 2: Cut your throttles, watch your speedometer and wait for it to get near 200mph.

Step 3: Engage Auto Speed (Alt X)

Step 4: Enjoy your nice controlled decent.

I use 160 because you get an extra 200 fpm descent with your gear down, and I've sheered it off using the default speed of 190.

Never thought of using my gear early just to create more drag. Gonna' be lowering them anyway, might as well get a steeper decent while I'm at it. Thanks, dude.

I normally leave the gear it up, but whatever works. I guess it doesn't really matter as long as you get on the ground safely.  :)

NOTE: Don't forget about opening your bomb bay doors, they create more drag as well.

I can't believe this. You people are so afraid to loose your B29, that you climb so high, and then you have a problem descending.  :rofl :rofl :rofl

The control surfaces separate from the airplane at about 370 IAS

You can get them knocked off going from 5k to the deck.
