Gyro Gunsights

I was wondering why we don't have this for our little game. Gyro gunsight certaintly existed before and during WW2.

From what I've read they were quite laborous to use, needed manual setup for example. You might as well ask why you don't need to maintain fuel mixtures etc. on planes that forced you to do that and in 190 you had automation to handle that for you.

The 190 would be entirely in its own class gameplay wise as it was in real life if you didn't need to worry about mixtures, prop angles etc. in middle of fights. :)

there would be box to check and uncheck under the (options--> flight) buttons for those wanting these options or not, much like the governor, auto take off, no tracer, and track ir options.  so the many of us would love these extra and use them. but the game could still be gamy enough for thos that don't want the hassle.    :aok    I personally would like to see fuel mixtures and gyro scopes ingame, at least the option for them to be used.

they would end up like the ww1 arena...used by few, understood by even fewer...you would want it just long enough to get shot down 5 times then turn it off...

Not if you coded a slight performance boost for using those functions, especially fuel mixture.

Maybe a couple percent of horsepower increase etc?

Or maybe the automatic settings can be inferior to those you can do manually?

Good idea, reward those willing to invest the time to master it.

+1 on the gyro gunsights for the appropriate aircraft (including the ability to disable it as a preference).

Regarding the manual fuel mixture and penalizing for not using it,
I think the question that would arise is "Why penalize the players
that play the game to have fun?".

Then again, there are the players that 'play the simulation
to win the war'...

It wouldn't be penalizing anybody, it would be rewarding those with skill and who practice. It's common opinion that flying with the no stall limiter option is superior to flying with it. Pilots aren't penalized for relying on it, but they can fall prey to those who know how to push their aircraft to their limits. But a mistake can mean a nasty spin.

I imagine a fuel mixture mechanic could be implemented in a similar fashion. I'm certainly interested in the idea.

what skill? if you're talking about figuring out how to set buttons and/or keys to make the tweaks faster...that's not skill.

Perhaps you are right, maybe skill isn't the right word. But it's a matter of opinion anyway.

It would give pilots the opportunity to practice and learn one more thing about their aircraft, that's not a bad thing. It is a flight sim.

you're right...and one more thing to fill the boards with whines about too...ever seen a gyro sight in operation? seriously, think about it...you're in the middle of a furball, you're d-400 on a con, do you really want to tweak something just to get a shot off while someone is setting up on your six and another is setting up a port side deflection shot?

just another "itz de cool shiz i want" item like the b-29...not really useful

It's a matter of perspective. Are you penalizing those who want to have fun or rewarding those who want to understand their AC in depth? I say add all that crap if you can - rad flap settings prop pitch, fuel mix, and so on. Let the masters hamster 'em. Let me learn to use 'em to the best of my ability.

note that the sophistication of the mentioned automation courtesy of Kurt Tank will doubtless help even out the D-9s wingloading disadvantage and thus better mimic reality.

Geez, you're really starting to turn south. This thread isn't even on a second page yet. Give it a chance, will you? And your argument is that it would be "too difficult". As if any of these ideas would be implemented without the option operate automatically. And we get to do this stuff in the safety of our homes, doesn't sound too difficult to me.
