I have always loved the way the 100p looks. I bet she would have been fast for her era if she had made it into the air. Then again how safe would you feel as a pilot sitting in it with those two drive shafts whirling on either side of you?
The real problem is anyone should feel like they can come to this forum and make a wish without being treated in a derogatory manner.  The only discussion should be centered around whether it would work, or how it would work and so on always in a respectful manner.

Interesting report. I hope all goes well and we get to find out just how well the Bugatti might have performed back in the day.

Hi guys, and thanks for allowing me to join your board. I found you through our website statistics - www.bugatti100p.com

For what it's worth, I'm the guy that has been tasked with reverse engineering the Bugatti gearbox and drive train, so it's my head that's on the block. I also administer the website, so it was nice to see your encouragment.

You will hopefully believe me when I say this baby will fly, and soon. You can view progress on the website which we update on a very regular basis. Currently the guys in Oklahoma are working on the wing, and over here in the UK I am in the final stages of the gearbox design at which point it will go off to Vocis for validation. After that, it's simply a case of producing the numerous drawings required for production and I will be able to move on to the rest of the drivetrain. We are confident the pilot will have nothing to fear from the driveshafts spinning around at 5500rpm just inches from his Gentlemen's equipment, we intend to encase them in sewage pipe!!

Hopefully you will be celebrating the first flight some time in the next couple of months and will be able to see the aircraft when she files at the EAA show in Oshkosh later in the year.

Best of luck with that project. It would certainly be a beautiful plane should it make it in the air.

Good luck with it Yeti. I do have a question for you though. I remember reading that wings with a forward sweep have a tendency to twist at the ends during maneuvering. From the looks of the 100p it might only have a slight forward sweep if any at all. If it does sweep forward is wing twisting something that concerns the builders or will the possible twisting be minor enough due to easy flying and minimal forward wing sweep to be a non-issue?

Yeti, that's awesome you stopped and said hey to us hoodlums.  I lived next door to Gregg when I was much younger.  I'm surprised he's already out of prison?

lol, I Kidd!  I knew a lot of these guys would appreciate what you guys are trying to accomplish.

Come back any time!

If it does sweep forward is wing twisting something that concerns the builders or will the possible twisting be minor enough due to easy flying and minimal forward wing sweep to be a non-issue?

There have been various scaled models made and wind tunnel tested, and whilst the results showed some instability in a couple of axis, there didn't seem to be much of a worry regarding twisting. If you could see how the spars have been built up, you would believe there is almost no chance of them twisting, but the thing is we will not know until we fly her in the summer. There are some good pics showing construction on the website -  page 2 of our gallery page

There are some interesting artciles here: http://bugatti100p.com/index.php?p=1_8_Articles-Papers, particularly the paper written by the French Polytechnic regarding performance.

Those articles are pretty long so I'm not doing the whole thing, but if anyone has questions on particulars, I can translate.

Thanks for sharing these papers and thanks for doing this Yeti.. Though I probably don't need to thank you for doing it, you're probably fond of the plane as much as any of us :)  A few years ago all one could find was that older website and the actual status of the project was pretty sketchy.
