I've gone a few times and had a blast, but the most fun I had was the first time I went.
This was way back when paintball was still 'new' and as a result most of us had to rent our equipment. There were no automatic guns, and the vast majority of us used paintball pistols that held ten rounds and a small CO2 cartridge that was good for about 40 shots.
It was after a snowfall and was just above freezing, and we were playing capture the flag. This was in the woods in the middle of nowhere, and they even dug trenches and built a small 'town' out of plywood and even had a few tree-top towers, although those were closed because of the snow and ice. We got mud EVERYWHERE! Our play area had to be a good 4 or 5 acres, and there were about a sixty of us total, maybe even more!
I was wearing a black trench-coat with a red inner lining and walked up to three enemies that were down in a trench. They looked up at me and one said "He's already dead" and they all turned their backs to me. I looked down at myself and saw no paint. I looked at a referee who was literally ten feet away and he shrugged his shoulders at me so I popped three rounds at them... hitting them in the back (and one in the back of the head! OUCH!) The ref pointed to all three of them and said "You're OUT!"
Later on I was pinned against a tree with two guys coming right at me. Paint was splattering the tree all around me, but somehow they kept missing me. I went to shoot and the round went "PLOOP", traveling about ten feet and bouncing off the ground! My CO2 was dry! I quickly unscrewed it and was struggling to get the new one threaded on and one guy came running towards me and yelling "I've got him!" Right then HISS went the CO2 and I turned and popped a round at him, hitting him right in the left eye! (Thank god for goggles!) Then he yelled "NEVERMIND!" and I was able to get the heck out of Dodge before his partner caught up to me!
My blaze of glory happened during our first game. We were half way to the enemy base and I was out of paintballs. I guess I got a little itchy with the trigger and went through my paint a lot faster than I had anticipated! So I decided to make a run for it, taking off running and shooting blanks at the enemies. It took them about 20 seconds to realize nothing was coming out of my gun and they all charged after me. I was dancing paint balls as they splattered at my feet but somehow none managed to hit me! I made it to their base, climbed the hill, grabbed the flag, and ran back to our base just as fast as I could, winning the game!
Yeah it was a blast! The guy we rode with made the mistake of driving his dad's brand new Cadillac and we got that thing so muddy it wasn't even funny! He probably got a good butt-whipping for that one!
