Finished!
« on: March 26, 2011, 11:45:00 PM »
Finally finished my first build last night. Will post pictures as soon as I get a decent camera (or my girlfriend lets me use hers).
Specs are:

Mobo: Gigabyte x58 USB 3.0
CPU: Intel i7 950 Bloomfield 3.06GHz (Stock Cooler, no OC)
Case: Xclio Blackhawk
PSU: Corsair TX850w
GPU: EVGA Nvidia 460SE (Fermi) 1GB
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB
RAM: Corsair XMS3 (2GBx3 for 6GB)
Extra: ASUS DRW-24B1ST (DVD Drive), Rosewill RNX-N250PC (Wireless PCI adapter)
Total Price Before Taxes: $1035.81

Also running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on it (not saying why I omitted it's cost :devil).

Windows Experience scores:
CPU: 7.5
RAM: 7.5
Graphics: 7.4
Gaming Graphics: 7.4
Hard Disk: 5.9

Thank you guys so much for helping me choose which parts to use, I know I asked a lot of questions and learned so much about this stuff (such as don't get a Rosewill PSU unless its for a pyrotechnic display). I completely blown away from this because of being used to my old 2002-2003 Dell DHP (512MB RAM and onboard GPU as a comparison)

I know, right...  The only issue is that it's a student license that they can revoke after graduation.  From what I've heard from graduates they let ya keep it though.

Technically, if you leave the school you bought it from, the license isn't valid anymore (had to sign a form).  If you graduate, then you have to sign another form promising not to distribute the copy, but you can use it on your personal machine.  I have no clue about the legal mumbo-jumbo, but they let me have it cheap so I'll play by their rules.

Technically yes.  That's what licensing is.  In this case it's a temporary license so it's kind of like renting.  A permanent license is more like ownership but the licensing authority still maintains rights as to how the licence can be used which are stipulated in the license agreement.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

Finally got around to uploading the pictures! Enjoy.

Sadly the PSU isn't modular so I have a bed of wires at the bottom.

there's usually space under the hd tray or run them up the sides somewhere where they cant be seen.  make sure they dont obstruct fans.  remember twist ties (from trash bags) are your friends.  check out tildeath's units in the classified's forum to give you some ideas.  I swear he uses power supplies with wireless connections  :noid cause it's hard to see any wires.
