Good defense at A31
« on: April 09, 2011, 01:17:44 AM »
The 325th VFG and the 412th were tasked to strike A31.  We decided to have 412th conduct the fighter sweep and the 325th (4 B-29 cell's) with P-51's would strike at H+50.

AK's / JG-11 and Duxford made short work of us and no bombs were dropped.  Closest bomber got within 5 seconds of drop.

At that point the remaining fighters RTB'ed.

<S> Viper.  What gave your strike away was u only flashing the town at a30.  Even though we were engaged with your fighter sweep, I was watching the map and also asking which direction the fighter sweep kept egressing to, which was to the E/ NE.  That made me concentrate my watch to the W/SW.  When we saw A31 start flashing, I imediately to the Defense to disengage the P51's and head to A31.  Come to find out, some p51's started flashing A31.  Then about 30 secs into our course to A31 is when I saw A30 town flash.  I then sent the Duxford Wing to fly intercept path between A31 and A30 and investigate while the AK's continued direct route to A31.  When Duxford wing said jackpot, Bomber group.  I knew we found yas and then turned S to your location to attack you guys.

You guys had a good plan as we were somewhat out of position until you flashed A30 town.  That was your giveaway, hehehehe.

<S>

Lol I was part of the fighter sweep and we were discussing just that line of thought. But we were a little late to the area to change the angle of our engress. We called for the local force to move to the North of the formation, but I guess it was too late at that point.

Dogg / Valkyrie:

Thanks and appreciate the comments.  Always good to do a AAR.  I knew we were cutting very close to the A30 radar ring as the other fight was just to the NE probably 10-15 miles.  I overlooked the position of the town at A30 in relation to the radar ring and the flashing issue.  Wont do that ever again.

A31 was just about impossible to sneak into given the radar rings and time and distance to cover.  Only really left us with a very slim angle to come in from.  All the same good defense guys <S>

Next time its a NOE B-29 raid!!!   :noid
