Non-persistent arena
« on: April 10, 2011, 08:31:01 PM »
Late war arena changed at least 4 times today meaning long missions are now a thing of the past.

Realism is suffering because we are forced to short term strategy/tactics.

I guess AWwrgwy is the guy who is here to crap on all threads without making any contribution to discussion that may be used to improve the sim.

icepac, you're not the first newcomer on the board to get his feelings hurt and think that everyone is out to get you. He's not. If there is a bad (repeated) idea posted on the board, no matter how good you think it is, it'll get toyed with and you can bet it'll be knocked around until it's either locked or forgotten.

It's best to learn that early and save yourself from a lot of heartache.

Great....another off topic post.

I posted this because of the huge amount of complaints heard today in the buffer from people who were stranded on long missions because the terrain or arena changes so often.

Let's let the many people who were stranded and unhappy today find this thread and contribute thier views before you guys muddy up yet another thread with non-topical bickering.

If a board is switched 4 times a day, that means that there are 4x SIX HOUR intervals (give or take). That is plenty of time to run a mission. Unless you count huge drawn out furballs between two bases that before, lasted for a day, as missions.

Ok, I'll bite.

First of all, the arena changed more than 4 times and possibly more during a 13 hour period.....possibly closer to 11 or 12 hours.

I'm sure the arena logs can show how many times during the arena or terrain change either booted people or changed field orientations during....let say.....10am eastern time to 10pm eastern time.

That's 4 hours or less between changes with more than some being a lot shorter than 4 hours before it changed.

That gives you a 1 hour window 4 times a day to launch a 2.5 or 3 hour mission with any time outside this guaranteeing you will stranded.

Arenas are closed and opened twice a day. Off hours arena, and non off hours. I'm not sure what time it switches from non off hours to off-hours, but switching from off hours to non is at 5 PM eastern. Any other closing of the arenas are when the war is won, which is player controlled. The arenas switching from off hours to non is a setup to help the European players to get an arena thats fun to play in.

If you want to run longer mission without being interrupted there is the Mid-war and Early-war arenas available too.

Last time I checked it switched to Off-Hours at 1AM Central and back to two main arenas at 4PM Central.  Fugitive summed it up pretty well.  I always check how much time I have before I up a bomber mission, and there really isn't much you can do about people winning the war, the 20% moves the big maps faster, but they might move those small ones too fast (IMO).

The arena logs should show that it changed 6 times in 18 hours.
