not the end but a new beginning, at least a friend of mine that studies these kind of things thinks so.

Well I don't think we have anything to worry about for qt least another 30-35 years at least. That is when the current crop of teens (kids same age as my oldest who is 14) get to the same age as us right now and they start seeing the hopelessness that we all left them with financially. Then we really have to worry about the end because they may kill us all.

The Mayan Calendar was miscalculated by 200 years.

The Polar Switches has never led to a mass extinction.. EVER.

Biblical stories of the ending and the apocalypse have always shown MANY dates and times when the world should be doomed, the next being May 21st.

Any others? :headscratch:

What he said.  I hope it starts at my front door.  The current sytem of whats valuable is skewed.  We need to try something different because it doesn't work.  I think the system has already started to collapse and hope it continues.  Other wise we would end up like this......

I've studied this in depth; using the waxing and waning of the moons, the alignment of the stars, and the geo forces of the earth. I've concluded the Mayans need a new calendar.

What the heck are you guys Smokin??

The same thing will happen at the end of the current cycle of the Mayan Calendar that happens at the end of the cycle of our current Calendar.... the current cycle will end and a new cycle will begin. Did the world end at Midnight December 31st 2010? NO.... The year 2011 began. This is nothing more than Global Hype being promoted by people that are trying to sell their books on the topic.

Makes for humorous discussion over a few brewski's... nothing more.

Not trying to get too deep here, but it seems like this topic has been brought up
quite a bit these days, between my friends and family members.
Just wondered what your opinions were on 12.21.2012.

My opinion is simple.  I hope it ain't true.

Simple answer really.  Anyone that thinks that people writing on stone some how predicted the end of the world should put an end to it now and leave the rest of us alone.  It is already too crowded on this planet anyway.  Please apply this to people even thinking for a second that it could be true.

Thank you for your consideration :bhead

not sure what the wheel has to do with a civilization having a massive knowledge of astronomy but...if you say so. seems to me any civilization that could cut stone with the same precision as modern machinery and build massive structures without the the wheel, had to have some knowledge beyond your understanding.

And the very best stone cutters built Twainaku, in present day Bolivia. Their work was unique because they actually angled their stone (instead of just stacking up blocks) which showed an advanced knowledge of geometry. They also had no written language.

We are pretty good in geometry too.

If 2012 is the end of the world, it will likely be due to a man made apocalypse and not a natural one.

I can imagine a greater power shaking the jar to see 'if we will fight'.

The world has been ending multiple times in history and each time they've been wrong.

Some people sold their houses, quit their jobs and quivered around churches 100% sure the end was nigh. Some committed mass suicide. You gonna repeat their mistakes?
