Confused. CH Control Manager vs In-Game mapping.
« on: May 22, 2011, 07:04:43 AM »
Are there any advantages to using CH Control Manager over the in-game mapping to program CH throttle/joystick/pedals?

Use Both.

Personally I use the in game mapping as a basis because it is so easy to programme the keys into your CH Gear. - And AH already offers different maps between aircraft and GV's. So I most strongly recommend you use the AH key maps and just assign the keys to your buttons using the CH Control Manager.

Recently I did find an Advantage in the Control Managert for my CH pro-pedals. CH Control Manager lets you change an analog axis to key press's. Using this part of CH Control Manager I was able to use my toes brakes for aircraft braking AND to control GV accelerate / brake / reverse. All I had to do to complete this was to remap the AH keys (in AH) for accelerate and brake/reverse

Another example of using both is I used to hop around a bomber using a hat switch for differnt gunner positions. At the same time I would sometimes use F3 to get the external view. When in a hurry to get back to the pilots seat you would need to press 1 and then F1. I set a hat position then did both key press's so I could instantly hop to the internal view for the pilot.

My Bad - I just realised you must be thinking of the button mapping when you map a controller. I don't do that it is really very restrictive.

My Stick, Throttle and Pedals appear in AH as CH Device 1, CH Device 2, CH Device 3.

The beauty of using the CH Control Manager is that you get to program the button at another level.
e.g if you hit the button and hold it down, you can chose to send the "key" as a single press or as a press until released or even as a set of key presses such as the 1 & F1 example I mentioned above.

Also you can only change the analog AXIS to key press in CH Control Manager.

Lagged duplicate  re-used!

Use Mapped Mode in the CH Control Manager. - assign the keys from AH key mapping
Always remember to download the map into the devices - More times than I can remember tweaking my map and then forgetting to download it. It has to be downloaded to use it!

You can try mine as a bad example! - Put the two files into your CH Map directory. Right click and "save target as"

Thanks.  I'll give that a try.  :salute

If you can program it in game without using the software, then by all means do so.

Only use the software to program functions that cannot be programmed from within Aces High.  If it is programmed in the game, leave it unprogrammed in the software.

Also do not change the key mapping in Aces High.  IMO A lot of people do this when it simply isn't necessary and it ends up making things way more confusing than it has to be.

Interesting point, would you care to give an example ? Personally I have remapped at least 4 keys in AH because it was not possible to do what I wanted with my CH gear.

Can you please tell me how you would get the Toe Axis on CH pedals to act as accelerater(W) and brake(S) without remapping and without losing the function of wheel brakes (C & V) in aircraft ?

Also explain how I can Mix button assignment for a controller in AH with mapping one in CH control manager on the same device. Because I don't know how.

I am also able to map three straight ahead views using the CH Control Manager. Dead ahead, Ahead over the left side of the engine cowling (Not ahead and left) and Ahead over the right side of the cowling. Those cowl views only otherwise achievable by sitting up and moving the head to one side which could get a bit messy in the heat of a battle.

If you have tried a map I uploaded , it was for others to mess with. You would not be able to use it without discussing the settings I did in AH to make it work. Such as head saved positions and a few key remaps.

The point I am making is that, as an example, the CH Fighterstick can be mapped entirely within AH which is fine if you are happy with that. Unfortunately to do some of the things I do I can only use CH Control Manager and the moment that happens My fighterstick will no longer show as a fighter stick in AH. It will show as CH Device 1 and none of the buttons will be visible as a controller in AH, only the Analog Axis. Although I am sure you know otherwise which if why I am asking you. How!
