High Alt Map
« on: June 02, 2011, 08:02:40 PM »
The map would have the following:
-All Airbases between 15-25k, with large valleys or sea between. (high plateau or pillars)
-Have towns randomly next too, or 2-5k below the Airbase.
-Ports will be located around the edge of the map.
-GVs would spawn onto the plateau. if the associated Airbase is not next to the town (alt wise) then a spawn would be provided down to the town for the defenders.

Reasons:
-At the moment in AH all strategic objects (bases, towns & City's) are low alts which drives the combat. This map would put combat alts at 15-30k. Some planes will suffer with the high alt and others will shine.  :airplane:
-CVs would not be as important but would still be a threat to Lower Vbases and Ports. (and there is still a chance puffy ack will pick you off flying at 30k above a CV you did not see)
-By having the Airbase at a higher alt then the town you force the attackers to split their forces more to cover. I.E a fighter providing cap could not quickly strafe a town ack then get back to cap. A GV could not drive to the Airbase and kill/camp the hanger.
-And if someone wants to dive away and run then they are welcome to the climb needed to land at some bases  :devil

I don't know if this is well described but I hope you all understand. Yes I know the map will not look realistic but I am not sure the last time I seen a Pizza Island.

I am betting 90+% of the players would hate such a map.  Even the fighters that "shine" up there fight in very different manners.  Taking off would be hard or impossible in many aircraft.

Sorry, the idea just won't fly.

I agree, this would drive more players away than bring them in. HTC has always had a limit on base alts, very few had any bases that high. I think one of Festers maps had an 8k base.

Not sure about the take off problem. Autotake off would do that for most. Even if you stuffed up most all runways end with cliffs/drops. Rolling until you drop off a cliff is not that hard.

As to the different flight manners, it would just be a new thing to learn. I am sure not every player that starts in AH even knows even 1/2 the controls or the way the many different planes are to be flown to achieve the best results.

I recall, years ago, taking a Mossie off of an airfield and thinking there was something wrong with my controls as it was so hard to get it airborne, then I saw I was at a base over 12,000ft above sea level.

The Mossie VI is almost at the peak output of its second stage supercharger at that altitude.  I don't even want to think what a takeoff at 20,000ft would be like.

Now imagine something that doesn't have a lot of power to spare, say an Il-2, Ju-87, Lancaster III or B-29A, those probably won't get off the ground at all.  There are reasons nobody has built an airbase high in the Himalayas.

People who's preferred fighter can't fight at altitude probably wont be interested in learning the ropes in a P-38, P-47, P-51, Spitfire XIV or Ta152 and many people won't be interested in fighting where the air is so thin that all maneuvers risk stalling.

I'm not sure I want to win a long fight down in the valleys just to have my victim take off again 15k above me.

If the lower reaches were placed a bit away from the 15k fields, that would be really cool.

Landing kills would be a little difficult.

Fights would not be higher, it just means attacking a base would be almost impossible. And the person you just killed would have the alt advantage 1 min later.

I remember a map some time ago that had a 10k base right in the middle of the map, with 5k surrounding it, and a few 5k bases scattered across the land.

The battles for that 10k base were constant and furious, because it basically gave everyone alt-advantage to stage attacks from. Battles there got crazy at times with all 3 chess pieces going after it.

AIR SPAWNS IN the MA :pray

this has a yay and nay for me.

yay if you are in a light bomber (B-26, 50% fuel, 2000# of bombs) this would be awesome to just takeoff straight and level and bomb everyone else down below.

nay because fuel loadout would have to increase (climb back to base) and I see a lot of impossible valley turns claiming the lives of many
