As an ex-Jolly Green crew chief the idea of a SAR aspect to AH appeals to me. But I just don't think it's workable in the game. Maybe there is a place for it in the event arenas, but not in the main game arenas.

It's not realistic though, devonai. Not in the least. If a pilot is shot down he rarely is in perfect condition, and you rarely drive a jeep out to pick him up and take him back to a base with infinite aircraft. 99% of the time a pilot downed is dead or captured the rest of the war. End of game. No more re-ups.

How about you get a perk reward for picking up a downed enemy pilot? Then you captured the enemy.

So... forcing people to stay on the ground to give the enemy a chance to pick them up?  :huh

SAR is just... not a good idea.  That's all there is to it.  There is gameplay to be had for the SAR pilot, but for the downed pilot it's a rousing session of navel lint contemplation.

Wiley.
If you think you are having a 1v1 in the Main Arena, your SA has failed you.

Maybe the OP just wants to be able to recreate that scene from the Pearl Harbor movie where the guy takes the chick for a ride in his P40.

Doesn't the P40 only have 1 seat? Also, many pilots after bailing (unless its behind own lines against bombers) are captured or killed after bailing like Krusty said.

You must not have seen the movie.  Lucky you!  I wish I could un-see it!

What the heck are you talking about my Brother.....      When Cuba Gooding started shooting at those Japs, tears in his eyes I guess, I started weeping with him.  It was touching.

Do they count the rescued pilot's sortie a "successful landing" after you picked him up and got him back to base?

Also,  :aok and  :salute for your service.

I was always disappointed they changed that part in the Clear and Present Danger movie.

Thank you sir. I do appreciate it.
Those that didn't go right to the hospital were met when our helicopters landed. Their squadron mates were there waiting with the champagne. Happiest people I've ever met.

But to answer your question, we counted it as a success and I'm sure the rescued pilot did too.

First time trying to load an image, so I hope it works.

Here is a rescued pilot fresh back to the base. The guys in the green hats are Jolly Greens, the dark hats are from his squadron.
