The berets belong to the guys who went the extra mile in training to earn them.  When I wore my Army BDU's, I had no problem with my camo baseball cap.  Kept the sun off my eyes and with my shaved head very little sweat.

I still think the old green fatigues were more comfortable then the BDU's.

Agreed on the Beret comment.

I have no opinion on the green fatigues.. I still have some BDU pants, though.  I always though them comfortable and pretty durable.  At least 1 or 2 pair are almost 20 years old.

Hell yes! Im so glad we are going back to the PC. most of us hate the beret. dumbest thing ever

And about the Multicam.. we are currently wearing it. but as far as i know it is only getting issued to Deploying units to Afghanistan. its known as the OEF uniform so they said once we get back stateside we have to turn all this stuff back in for ACU.

I saw in the Armytimes that they are thinking about buying/creating a variant of MARPAT (i hope not  :uhoh) id be so much happier if they just mass issued Multicam

Them Alice packs are awesome, aren't they? I guess now's a good time for me to buy one, I could get a GI one on the cheap at the Surplus Store in town but I've got a few buddies that bought rucks from Blackhawk and such which were just custom packs on Alice frames. But at this point I don't want to buy something that I wouldn't get to actually use in uniform, I've got Jansport's and Kelty's if I want to ruck on my own time and they're great.

Here's what I'm talking about:
(Image removed from quote.)

Now THAT is something I wanna' wear!  :rock

The old short-frame external-frame Keltys (worth their weight in gold these days) are the closest I've found to the Alice in the civi market.  The longer and modern "standard" external frame on Keltys now is also a great (my favorite available "on the lot" still at most stores) frame for recreationing, but the extension that I feel is to just keep things from slapping into your butt while on the trail makes it tougher to take five confortabley without taking it off, which is a bad thing in my book for any breaks shorter than 20 minutes on the trail, easier to get going again by not completely sitting down or unloading the pack.  Internal frame packs look cooler but are just IMO heavier, less flexible/adapable and short of a monsoon season - useless to me.  Good ol' simple solid external framed packs are my favorite and have been handy on the trail a dozen ways from Sunday (I got a picture from my younger backpacking trek days of me and "my" pack I just humped up a 4.5k foot sumit we scaled that morning - rediculously strapped up with another hiker's Kelty and an overstock of ~25 pounds of water (we had a dry camp that night and weren't expecting to see water again until just reaching the next evening's camp) and an extra ~10 pounds of food since we had just stocked up and resuplied the afternoon before).

*sigh* Now there's something I could go for getting back into someday when I have more time/money, was excelent for keeping you in shape and leaned off the cancer sticks.

I have an ALICE and a MOLLE pack; like both of them and they both have different uses in my opinion. The ALICE is more about long term while I tend to think of the MOLLE as more short term. It could be that I use the MOLLE as a quick travel bag for work trips and stuff as well.

Probably a good call since "dont ask dont tell" was repealled, Army brass was probably worried some nancy boiz would start wearing "Rasberry Berets"    :devil
The Kanonenvogel had 6 rounds per pod, this is not even close to being open for debate.
