I can understand indifference, but I'm curious what makes you like them.

Makes you have to know your plane, not just the cookie cutter model.

Not everyone has time to memorize 5-6 different number layouts. There is nothing 'cookie cutter' about it.+1

You don't have to memorize them, they are listed in the upper left corner.

I enjoy the different layouts of the aircraft, including their gun crew position numbers. Adds a small amount of flavor, for nothing else other than they are all not the same "cookie cutter" layout.

OK, but wouldn't you rather have auto-convergence to make the drones shoot where you are aiming in the first place? Makes absolutely no sense to make the drones shoot off into the air, no where near the target.

Knowing each bomber's gunner's position isn't a matter of skill, it's just memorization.  I'm much rather be beat by a guy who's good at flying bombers and gunning than beat a guy who accidentally goes into the wrong gunner position.

Didn't realize how different it was, until I switched up my B-17, for a B-29.
Still lost on that.  :headscratch:

I don't know the B-25C, B-25H and B-29 well enough to suggest mappings for them from memory.

Ju88 nose gun is fixed, so nothing there to map.  The Ju88 would, by your example, a 5, 6, and 7.
B25C: 2
B25H: 2,3,5,6
B29: 2,3,4,5,6.  It doesn't have a true "belly" gunner. It has the turret, but not a gunner.  The gunner(s) are in the waist and use the belly by remote.

Maybe we should use a digital setting for items in the cockpit then? I don't want to kill a guy who forgot where his flaps were set, I want to kill him because he can't fly when all conditions are perfect.

Forgetting or not paying attention is the fault of the pilot. I mean, how long do you have in bombers before you typically reach your target? The info is there for the pilot. If he chooses to not use it...

That or we could bring back DEATH STARS!!!, but then you wouldn't get to use any guns as a pilot...

There is a difference between using flaps and switching between gunner positions.  Deploying flaps is an integral part of flying a plane, as opposed to this conceptual "jumping" between gunner positions that has to be done to make a real world concept fit a video game.

Anyway, flaps are standardized between aircraft, same button for every aircraft.  If I accidentally drop flaps instead of lowering my gear, that's my fault, that's pilot error.  But the idea that I had to get up from my pilot seat and run to the tail gun but accidentally ran to the ball turret instead is absurd.

Is it possible to set cycling through gun positions to two buttons? Press one button to keep going down the list "1, 2, 3, 4" and press another to go up the list? I haven't figured out how to do it if it's possible, and if it isn't, I'd like to see it as an option in a future patch/update. I'd rather rapidly tap a button on my stick to get to the gun I want than look at the keyboard and try to remember what number I need to press and then find it.

if the flaps were set to different keys for each fighter then it would be a problem for fighters.  see the point just like in gvs no matter which gv you ate in you know it's pretty much standardized positions.  but in bombers they are not.
