Folks who get perks don't worry about free anything.

I'm surprised the AVA is not improving yet. I thought all arenas would improve since the LW went back to one arena. I know MW has increased numbers.

I'd sure like to see the AVA go back to it's grass root Allies VS Axis. Let the SEA handle events....... but then again I have not been going in regular so I am as much to blame as anyone. I see 1, 2 or nobody in there and go elsewhere. Guilty as charged.

When I post in the AVA threads I do try to keep from treading on the AVA Staff toes. They are working hard to revive the arena. I wish them the best. They are doing their best to make Ah a better place for all of us.

I disagree.    The AvA should have a purpose other than  'furball'  without icons between two bases.     It's what has keep me away from the AvA (and others I know).   Often times the old system (even though it displayed historical context with bombers and gvs),  the guys in the old settings preferred to dogfight and left the remaining equipment mostly unused.  Resources to build a historical map with all the bomber and gvs had become a waste.

Now that there is a purpose 24/7 , I have been able to capture the interest of a few pilots.    As for attracting pilots, if you have 1 or 2 bomber folks online,  they may just stay online  (instead of logging off when no one else around to dogfight).  Then enemies will come online to challenge them and the arena builds from there.    The arena also has a plus for the bomber folks when manual calibration enabled.  It's great for folks to practice for the nightly events,  thus building more incentive for bombers to fly in the arena.

And yes I've seen more than 2 people in the arena   (at one time recently saw at least 10 folks online).

Thank ya sir!

Well, having some sort of objectives on a daily basis isn't really a single "event" structured with assignments like the SEA runs, but is player choice.

We try to come up with stuff other than base capture alone, so the fight moves away from shutting down bases (which isn't much appreciated in a smaller population, especially by dogfighters)

We have a lot of challenges in that most maps are huge for a small population and strategic targets are a forever flight away.

It would be great if we could provide something that will give dogfighters, bomber and attack pilots and even tankers something they all can enjoy with a little less of the "kill the source of the fight" base capture only dynamic, but we haven't gotten there yet.

Next week, with the most modern prop and jet bombers along with jet interceptors could prove interesting.

Maybe it's not for you or the folks you hang out with... otherwise you would all be in the SEA during events.

Back when the arena was more popular we would have many many more. They were mostly all fighters and were not worried about buildings and such.

the AVA is, what it is. right now its Jetweek. last night i posted on 200 in the LW and MW and we had 10 people. the fights were pretty awesome. while i did get my butt handed to me, they were mostly clean fights. <S> drbone.

anyway come in, check it out and bring a friend or 2. There's bombers for the bomber guys, there's strats for the guys that are after "winning the war", there's capture the base to get a better plane, and there's dogfights for the rest of you.

Thursday there will be a altitude competition in 163's for anyone that's interested. just see my post in the AVA forum on the rules.

so stop your yammering, go in, and have some fun!

Maybe it's not for you or the folks you hang out with... otherwise you would all be in the SEA during events.

The Old style Ava and the SEA events are two different things.   The old style was just furbal dogfights and the times I was in there was toward  the lower altitudes.(which IMO is what defines a dueling arena).  THE SEA wednesdays, on the otherhand, has objectives whether it be a fight, escort, bomb, jabo,  and the LCA regularly flies there with numbers.    The difference?   The LCA didnt fly the AvA arena because it did not provide an objective (forward sweep, cap, escort, bomb, jabo).    Dogfighting should be about knocking out all planes,  not reupping low and get fast to a fight,  rinse repeat.   It also should be about pushing down the enemy, get a cap, so the other forces can get in.   Historical context in entirety 24/7.

Want AvA historical situations and just dogfight?  Fine, then propose that the objective is to reduce the enemy's airplane availability at an airbase.  If a base has 20 aircraft, and one gets shot down,  there's  19  left.   The airfield with 0 airplanes changes sides, and the dogfight continues.  All until the war is won by the enemy who has moved the battlefront the most.   Now that would be a purpose of dogfighting in a historical arena match-up.

The new AvA setup now provides an objective and some have started to enjoy this arena (fighter engagement, escort, bomb, jabo).
