Personally, I hope the 59 page pursefight continues. I've gotten a LOT of laughs out of watchin'

The fantasy land dueling bracket is for people who are scared of serving their country in the MA.  War in the MA is where warriors enlist to carry out the orders of proven leaders, not 200 chest thumping, "me me me" types.  I don't know how you guys justify abandoning your squaddies while they sacrifice in the MA's.  It's not something that a brother in arms like me can fathom.

At the end of day, those are the guys with honor.  When they turn off the monitor and do the post flight wipe down, they can look into it and see the reflection of a true hero.

Ha, I'm an ez kill.

Well your point was that there is nothing wrong with some good competition (I Agree) and that this thing got lost along the way (I also agree).  But when did it get lost because I did not see many of the most vocal "THE FIGHT" guys signing up and partaking in it before it "got lost" which was well into over a year of these competitions.  I also do not see many of these fellows in KOTH, which are basically the two events that would cater to that mode of play more than anything else in the game aside from furball lake (which they don't fly at either).

Something stinks and I hate to say it, but I think Sunbat's "Scared" theory is the simplest and most plausible theory to explain this phenomena.

I agree that something stinks Grizz.  I think I participated in two or three of these and have not been in KOTH more than a couple of times in the last year and a half.  Then again, I have not been on line in the past year an a half that much either.  You see, some of us got bored after attending KOTH every single time or bored of the game in general after 10 years.  Then, some of us also have other lives other than AH that may occupy our time like, ohhh I don;t know, kids that have sports to go to, trying to start a business, silly things like that.  So, it maybe that it is out of respect to the event and other people that we don;t sign up since we know we may not be able to attend.  So, you tell me what stinks because I am confused.

And please, do not use KOTH to talk about "THE FIGHT" crowd.  Both events are not about fighting.  They are about winning.  This one is cleaner since it is 1 vs 1, but KOTH is all about getting to the fight last and face shooting (as you know very well).

But I will agree with you that from all the people talking about fights, only a very small percentage will ever show up for a duel just for fun.  The "just for fun" should be in bold.

We had lots of formal and informal tournaments back in the early days of Aces High.  I met NathBDP via a H2H dueling tournament circa 2000 or so.

I don't really recall anything approaching the ridiculous levels of whining and rule mongering.  People seem so desperate to establish a legacy or make a name for themselves now that they refuse to accept that you can't and won't win every time.  I guess it's better to default, make excuses, or not participate at all than to expose oneself to risk.

The lack of respect I see in these threads is ridiculous.  Nath and I beat BigMax and Lizard3 in a loose deuce competition years ago, and my competitive side was so over the top that... I met BigMax for lunch when I was in Mississippi a couple of years later, and we had a good laugh about it.  Crazy, right?

disagree!

i would say (tentatively, as i have not yet been a participant in any of the brackets) that one of the most important aspects of the duelling competition is to have some of the most talented sticks in the game fighting one other...

in my experience (it may not be everyones), when you get to that kind of high level of skill in something competitive, the most enjoyment comes not from just 'owning' everyone who is worse than you, but from competing with other highly skilled people...win or lose.

i also think the duelling bracket is great for those who aspire to improve their flying to get the opportunity to go up against the aforementioned high level players and learn from the experience. the feedback i've read on these boards certainly indicates that is an important consideration
Did you see my dad on dogfights yet?
I'll be seeing you face to face possibly next month.

Yes, the enjoyment maybe what you stated.  But the events are made for winning.  A bracket or KOTH event promote playing for the win.  There is nothing wrong with that.  Whats is wrong is pretending that they are not. If every one wanted to just fight for fun, the DA fields would be full of players like it used to be a long time ago.

I also agree with DMF.  Most guys are out there to make a name for them selves.  Every time I duel someone and decide to just play for fun and experiment, I had to hear about it the next day.  If they get destroyed they just never come back. (with the exception of a select few).

Normally, one would enter a bracket or KOTH type of event just for fun only if they know they could not compete.  That is wrong.  It takes away from the competitiveness of the event and also allows some to advance easier than others.

When can we meet up in the DA? I want to experiment a new technique I just came up with. It involves shedding parts for a more even weight distribution. My preliminary tests have turned up evidence that this works the best without elevators and half of the right wing.

Once you've helped me perfect it, I will return to these forums to slander your good name. You down?
