I've been wondering, have I lost my edge when it comes to public speaking?  I can no longer deliver the grandiose oration that I have in my past.  Perhaps I had reached my peak, or perhaps my lack of study in the area has left me without feedback, focus and purpose.

My lack of eye contact astounds me, and my current speeches draw little more than a clap.  Perhaps some of you have a history in politics or oral debate, and could help me get out of my rut.

Your getting older. To put it in perspective, everyone loves a puppy. People will stop what they are doing to play with, pet, or just spend some time with a pup. Your at the point where your just another middle aged dog and nobody really wants to hear your barking. If you want to get your audience to focus on you, your gonna need to find yourself a super hotty to hold your leash.

A speech should be about the message, not about how smart you are.  Keep it simple, keep it as short as possible, and keep it honest.

There are those speeches in history that are quoted in their entirety, and there are other speeches that are completely forgotten save a few choice lines.

Aim to write the former.

I have a feeling that in the past, people clapped and cheered due to the fact that you had finally stopped talking. The applause is more tempered now since they have come to the realization that, in fact NO, you never actually stop talking.....

From what I've read of some of your posts on here, most of your writing is just a lot of fluff, and intellectual feather strutting, without much substance.

If you feel you've lost your "edge", might I suggest that perhaps you never had any "edge" to begin with, and that maybe you where only being deceived by your own ego.  I'm not trying to be rude or condescending at all.  We all need a reality check from time to time, maybe this "losing your edge" stuff is part of yours.

Ego?  I can see that.  Complacency?  I don't know what you mean by that; do you mean that I ought to practice?  How do I practice without rehearsing?

You sure haven't lost that "full of yourself" blather.
