AH on a drive-in screen
« on: July 12, 2011, 12:46:54 AM »
My parents own a drive-in theatre. The place recently closed down but they said I can hook my computer up to the outdoor screen and play AH if I can figure out a way to make the connections. Any ideas?

Normally my TrackIR camera is on top of the screen... does it work from 100 feet away?

Seriously though, does the system use a digital projector of some kind or is it some reel to reel system?  We need to know what kind of hardware is used to project.

If you get it working, I bet you could re-open and would have a loyal group of followers. People love soap opera drama - some of the best entertainment to be had can be found on ch200.  :D

Tell ya what. If he cvan figure it out it might make for a hell of an advertisement for the game as people see these giant airplanes fighting one another and want to know what the hell it is.

Why'd they close the drive in anyway?
I can understand how a drive in wouldnt work with todays movies. But with the older ones and kids movies in particular. Might make for a nice family outing if they showed on the driven the old Dumbo and other kids movies on the big screen.

Would work if marketed correctly

What connection options are available going into the projector?

What connection options are available going out of your video card?

It's an old screen from the 70's, maybe 100 ft x 50 ft, not really sure. I used to watch James Bond movies there when I was a kid. Would have to be some kind of jury rigged system for it to work. Have to link my PC to the projector. I plan on sitting in my car with my joystick and playing on the big screen provided I can find cables long enough. Unfortunately, I would have to use the drive-in window speakers, the one's on the pole, for sound. Maybe I can splice a couple of them together for some serious surround sound action? As far as advertising the game goes it probably wouldn't work as the surrounding neighbor has deteriorated into a heap of crack houses and opium dens. When those stoners see the planes up on the screen they'll probably think their neighborhood is under attack and barracade themselves in the basement, lol!!! Thanks for your help guys. Free popcorn and stale hamburgers for anyone who wants to attend.

If your car stereo has an mp3 3.5 mm jack, I'd set the computer audio to 'line-out' and plug the PC directly into your radio.
Just a thought.  Hope ya get it working, it'd be cool as hell to see.

Wow...so, umm...where ya from, Vafii? :O I've always wondered about saving up, and playing AH on a movie screen sometime...in a theatre...but I think drive-in would be fan-freaking-tastic.
