Balance of Power (Rooks, Bishops, Knights)

Discuss, Explain.
If I had a gun with 3 bullets and I was locked in a room with Bin Laden, Hitler, Saddam and Zipp...  I would shoot Zipp 3 times.

Late 2008 and I started flying AH, the balance of power was firmly at the feet of the Rooks, Limbo and Delta missions running the show. A year later it was pretty much Rook and Bish sharing honours with war wins, Jokers and LTARs providing attack and defence, helping Bish gain ground. Knight's being the meat in the sandwich between the superpowers during this time, although, enjoying ultra cheap jets. Come mid/late 2010 it seemed the amassing vForces tipped the balance back into Bish hands, swarming the land of both Knight and Rook. I think at present it's pretty balanced between all three occationally all three win a war.

I like to think of our chess pieces are like WW2 Countries with the character and power they have in general; The Bishops amass like the Russians, swarming in numbers giving little thought to staying alive as long as territory is theirs. The Rooks are your US/UK allies, landgrabbing average throughout, seeking refuge high above. The Knight's are Germany, fighting on both fronts against contries with superior numbers, relying on the quality of pilots not numbers, very rarely having success in the land grabbing stakes.

Well... Just a thought.  :o

3 mentally unbalanced sides tend to balance the numbers. :)

Rooks+Knights vs. Bish

Day in.  Day out.

Gangbang the Bish until they are at 50%, then maybe if convenient attack each other.  If not just keep hammering.
Bish log back on take 30% back while pimp slapping both sides back where they belong.
Bish log off and the gangbang restarts.

Getting kinda old that the only way Rook or Knight can win a map is by going 260 vs 130.

If you guys bothered keeping the fight even you'd watch Bish take map after map.

Day in.  Day out.

From Tour 1 until they took the stat away, Rooks always had the best K/D against both the Knights and Bishops and Knights always had a positive K/D against the Bishops.

I wonder if that has changed?  Probably.

So essentially you're saying Bish own all others unless it's 2:1 or greater odds.

My thoughts exactly!!  :aok :aok :aok :aok

How balance was REMOVED  :furious

We had a new town with a great number of buildings (some of them hidden from plain sight) that had to be destroyed to capture the town and progress towards a country win and reset of a map.

It was clear that new setting was too high for even the best of base takers to have a decent percentage of successful missions or attempts to capture towns.

The game play evolved into a one horde single area battleground for a base capture, using forces in excess of what any defense could mount to prevent the capture.

Others mounted smaller surprise attacks under radar, but still recruited excessive force to supress any defense of the field to be targeted.

:bhead  It didn't take long for the shine to rub off.  Either the attack force was so large that you barely had a target to hit before it was over, or would be defenders figured, "why give the other guys a kill".

Radar was reduced in height to slow the surprise attacks, and town percentage was decreased to 50 percent and a flag at the maproom indicated it was ready.  :rock

Maps were again changing hands and battles were spotted all over the maps with all countries involved.

If one country launched a large raid, the defending country could put up a small defense and go on the offensive in several other areas of the attackers territory.

Basically, grab your gun and roll to any field and someone would be there to meet you to do battle.

This was not good enough, complaints arose that one set of bombers could raise the white flag.   :headscratch: So?

But the complaints were loud and many, so a compromise was reached, and the white flag remains but at a percentage of buildings that requires several strikes.  :uhoh

We should be good right?   :noid  Nope.  The extra time and extra ordinance needed to prepare a town, is basically enough to give defenders the advantage to shoot defenseless goons or 1 trooper running to the maproom.

Insert HORDE  :airplane: :airplane: :airplane: :airplane: :airplane: and around and around we go.

Back when I played regularly, the bishops were the most powerful because they had me.

The rooks and knights do not gang bang the bish. Having been bish 99% of the time, my opinion is as un-bias as it gets. If anything, the Knights get ganged regularly.

Same deal in AW Glenn :)

One of the reasons the Nomads bounced sides back then.  Same old same old.

There were two types of groups.  The guys that moved to the side with numbers, and the guys who went to the side without.  Same traitor, spy talk.  It was silly then, it's silly now :)

The AK's now again are in a country rotation.  Each tour we fly with a different chess piece.  Each month I hear the same whines no matter which chess piece we are.

Conclusion, they are all the same...
