There are many ways to manipulate scores so it is difficult to give them too much credence. However you can use it as a tool to measure your own progress. Take fighter score as an example. Your kill to death ratio and hit percentage are good things to track. If you are flying the same types of missions from month to month you will probably see a steady climb in your performance.
But only compete against your self. There are too many variables and ways or styles of play to compare your score with anyone else's.
